Need an opinion on ESC

I need your opinion oe educated thoughts. I recently aquired a Hyper 10TT and bought a new Sidewinder SCT system for it. The motor never runs over 100 whick is great and Im shure the CC Blower helps. The ESC on the other hand is hitiing 140's and 160 yesterday on a warm afternoon. I have it geared 13/45 MOD1 gears ofcourse. Do you think its undergeared or the truck might be a bit heavy for the Sidewinder or am I undergeared possably? The gearing was for a TRX VXL 3500 combo on 3s which it did great with.
And my question on the ESC's. I have a original Mamba Max ESC here. Do you think it would be a better, stronger and cooler running in the Hyper than the SCT ESC? Ive read 40% more power than original and closer to the old MM. The original Sidewinder was 70A, that would put the new SV2 and SCT one at about 100A. Isnt the MM rated at 120A. Do you guys thing it would run cooler? Maybe give me more power and speed?

How heavy is the car ?
How fast does it go with the current gearing ?
Simply adding an external bec will bring ESC temperatures down and prevent failure from the internal bec dying
Sidewinder will handle similar power as your old MM, not suitable for running 3s with the 3800
Send Castle an email and they might upgrade your MM to an MMP for a good price
Cheers

I disagree, I think the old Mamba Max is much much more robust than the Sidewinder SCT. It never had any bec issues until 4s which was out of its rated voltage anyways, unlike the MMP and Sidewinders which seem to be hit or miss. There is still a few guys around that run the orig. MM in 8th buggys on 3s with no external bec, they stick with it because they have not had the issues most other ESCs are facing regularly. I cant say no one has had issues with it, but most guys I know say it is one of the strongest ESCs ever built.

I would be running an external bec on any Castle ESC, will lower temps and protect against internal bec failure, cheap insurance
MMP / Monster both need one in my Slash 4x4 when running an ACE servo
Gearing / Amp draw are vital to preventing issues

But yes, its true! I would say it is a combination of under gearing and you need to add a BEC. The Castle Creations (in my opinion) is if not the best, within the top 2! Pull the fan off the motor and run it(But be extremely careful and keep the temp gun close!) See if you can run it for approximately 6 minuets and your esc should be around 100 or less and your motor 140 or less.
When i gear I use the " Up 1, back 2 method" Go up 1 on the pinion and run it and if it gets warmer, go back 2 teeth on your pinion! But im guessing your about 3 teeth to low.
Another option is you could have a cold short in your wires- When a cold short happens, the wire of the esc/motor touching together are grounding out through the shielding. Just space them out with some wire ties between them.
Good luck
