Turnigy Batterys :)
#1
Hey everyone.
Once again i decided to make a thread on another brand of batterys. This is to discuss if they are good, bad or just trash.
Well today as i sit here im contemplating whether or not i should order some turnigy 4500mah 30-40c 4s hardcase batterys for racing. I have already got one protek 5400mah 35c 4s battery but it broke home the price of it when i thought about how much other packs are. I dont care if they dont have the little sticker saying "ROAR Approved" on it, because seriously for club racing who needs em?
I have seen the gen's ace but they are NEVER in stock and when they are they are sold out in 30 seconds and also i dont like the style of how TALL the pack is. So my choice is the Turnigy 4500mah 30-40c 4s batterys, I would get two of these but have there been know to have problems? I heard one person say the cells were lose in his and he had to pop the case to fix it. Anyone else had this issue? Are there any other problems anyone has had?
Thank you very much

I use the Turnigy Nanotech batteries because you can charge them at more than 1c. I usually charge mine at 2c. Great bang for the buck and with the Nanotechs you can get the ones that are 45c constant and 90c burst. I use them in both my 1/8 scale buggy on 4s as well as my Losi SCTE shortcourse truck on 3s.

I've been running with turnigy lipo cells for almost three years now.
2*2s 5000 20C (oldest ones, they're retired now, but they did about 200 cycles in my 2wd slash)
1*3s 5800 20C (one cell was bad at arrival, but I was able to get it working with some chargertrickery (not recommended) and it lived for about 100 cycles after that)
2*2s 5000 25C (hard cases, no problems, I'm still using them. about 100 cycles)
2* 2s 5800 25C (soft cases, no problems still using them)
2* 2s 6000 nanotech 25 C (soft cases, still using them)
2* 4s 4000 nanotech 45C (soft cases, still using them)
Except for the bad cell in the 3s pack i haven't had any problems with balancing or uneven discharges.
To roar or not to roar does often seem to stir up quite alot of feelings, and I'm not going into that question, just stating my experience with turnigy lipo cells.

Two Turnigy 5200mAh 2S 30C Hard-Case Car Lipo Pack - both are dead after ~70 cycles. And I am suspecting it is their fault that my MMP went in fire
...
I know ~20pcs of dead or puffed exactly these LiPos.
PS: My chargers are Hyperion EOS615i Duo 3 and iCharger 208B. And I have ~20 other LiPo packs that still lives ok (for cars and planes). Info in case there will be comments about bad chargers or smth similar.

They are good for the price you pay. I only buy Turnigy/Zippy/Flightmax batteries (15) and have had only 1 fail so far.
Just note that with the lower price there is the risk of possibly more failures than a domestic brand. BUT....you can buy 2-3 of these for the same price as the domestic brands. To me that is an acceptable risk.

Honestly, I've had great luck with the 2 cell Turnigy packs but out of the three 4s 4500mah hardcase packs I bought I've had 2 of them die on me after 2 or 3 runs each. Everything would seem fine but when I went to charge them they showed up as 3 cells on my charger. That's the only 2 batteries that I've ever had to go bad on me. Maybe I just got a bad batch, who knows. I'm going to try out the Gens Ace 4s packs now and see how they do though.

I just bought 10 of those batteries all balanced well, I used 4 this past weekend for racing, all worked great, ran some last season and they stopped making 10 min mains but they were used back to back, now I use two per vehicle

I have bought 6 of the 4000 mah 30 c 2s and i havent had one problem yet, each has 30-40 runs on them and charge and discharge as should stay balanced well. For $19.99 each i cant complain. I wanted a 5000 mah and a 35c would be better but they dont have them in hard case with the wires coming out the top.

It seems like there may have been a bad batch of the 4s 4500's going around. I have two of them that each have a low cell.
One of them had a cell go almost to 0v. I did the nimh charger trick on that cell and it's been running OK ever since. That's a weak cell and it always discharges first. I set my cut off on my esc to like 3.4 and only run it for 8 min max in my buggy during practice. The battery does work but I'm waiting for it to burst into flames.
The other 4s 4500 battery I have was fine for about 10 charges and now it also has one cell that likes to go lower than the rest. I treat it the same as the above battery but I've never had to do any charger tricks to it. I also expect it to burst any day now.
With that said I had 1 2s2p 5200 hard case that I used for about 200 charges without a problem. It still works fine but doesn't have the punch like it used to.
I also had 3 2s1p 5000 25c soft case turnigy's that I used about 50-100 charges. Those batteries worked fine but eventually felt a little soft. I don't have them anymore but to my knowledge they still work.
I have 2 2s 6000 25c-50c- nanotech's that work great. I belive I have about 100+ charges on them and they're awesome. They're just starting to get soft now but they're totally fine.
I just recevied 2 Gens Ace 4s 4c hard case last night. They balanced flawlessly and performed perfectly. I'm really happy with them in the 1 charge I ran on them. However, my friend has 1 2s that had 1 cell die and 1 2s that the case cracked open. The 2nd battery is nothing a little glue won't take care of. I did see another Gens Ace 2s that had 1 cell die. When they tried to open it they punctured the cell and it went up in smoke. I think their good batteries if you don't mind fixing stuff. The cells are solid, just the soldering or something might need some work.

Lost my first Turnigy lipo (2s 5000mah 30c hardcase) last weekend. Ran it in my 1/8 ebuggy along side another 2s 5000mah 30c in the second heat race. After the race I pulled off the track and went to marshal. Returned to my pit to plug in and charge the batteries. Got a low voltage signal from the charger so I looked at the voltage. One cell is showing 3.70v the other was showing 0.00!
Thought it was strange it finished the race without a problem at all. Then showing 0.00 in one cell??

I have had two of the 2s 5000mah soft case lipos for over a year and have had great luck with them.
I also have a 5000mah 2s hard case that has been great.
Picked up a 4500mah 3s nanotech as well, and it has been amazing.
Just picked up 3 lightly used 5000mah soft case 40c 2s packs, and will use them this weekend for racing.
I have been really happy with turnigy lipos so far. They are the only ones I have ever bought!
