Default Looking for an 8th scale BL ESC for winter use.

Hello,

I am looking for an ESC that I can use for winter bashing in the snow. I am not looking to submerge the vehicle, just standard bashing on ice and snow. So it needs to be able to handle a chassis filled with powder and melting powder...

I am extremely happy with my VXL in my slash 4x4 and Rustler but would like to be able to run one of my 8th scale rigs during the winter. I just can't bring myself to risk one of my MMM ESC's in the snow, and I just don't trust the corrosion X and similar methods with an expensive ESC.

I tried the plasti-dip method on an old BK warrior that came in one of my rigs, and it burned up shortly after, but I think that may have been caused my me not catching the BEC limit with 4S lipo for that particular controller.

So, long story short I am in the market for an ESC that can handle 4S to 6S (but I can live with 4S) and is either water resistant out of the box, or cheap enough that I won't lose sleep over trying a water proofing method out. I would also like it to be fairly dependable so that if it does go up in smoke I'm less likely to wonder if it was a failed snow proofing.

I just stumbled across this: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=14635 I have used Turnigy's 18th scale ESCs before and prefer them over the mamba for that scale, so I am tempted by it.

Thoughts, ponderings and / or recommendations?

Sorry for the long post!

Try hobbywing ezrun or xerun series. 80amp combo is good enough!

Hobbyking warranty sucks!

Thats what I was going to recommend! I run a 80A XE and its had snow completely packed around it and in the air vents and its been fine. Same with there EZ 60A's for 1/10s. Ive gotten them very wet and never any problems. HW states there water resistant aswell.

Yep! I have it paired with a Tork2200(Castle/Nue) in my Maxx and its "smoother" and just as fast as my MMM2200 combo in my Revo. Actually is cog free. Runs like a sensored set up.

Is the Xe series better then the original hobbywing series? I heard a lot of bad things about the original hobbywing, but I also heard a lot of good things too.

Is the motor in the combo worth the extra money, in comparison to say a Fiegao (can never spell that right) or one of the XL can motors from hobbyking? Since I already have one of each, and a 2200MMM motor, but that is staying in my LST.

Best price I could find on ESC only: http://cgi.ebay.com/XERUN-Competitio...ht_4070wt_1139

So, do you think I would need to bother plasti-dipping this ESC, or just run it out of the box? Any other places that carry the ESC or the combo for a better price? 190 is what the combo seems to go for on ebay, thats just a hair to much for me to pay for a 'knockoff'

Thanks for the info so far!

80amp esc or combo is good enough. Hobbywing 4168 motor is 4 pole whereas almost all cheap motors are 2 poles.

4 poles has more torque therefore can push the 1/8 car wo much difficulty.

Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions. Sounds like the 80amp xerun is pretty well liked here. My only hang up is running an 80 amp in an 8th scale. This will be going into a Savage X, Mayhem ST or maybe an LST2. Depends which rig I feel like running in the snow...

Are the motors that come with the combo worth the extra money?
such as: http://www.helipal.com/xerun-brushle...om9tpvubk2si10

And has anyone ordered from helipal before?

So no one has tried the Turnigy Trackstar?

So wheres the best place to order one? After just the ESC I think. Best price I have found is ebay at 81 bucks shipped. http://cgi.ebay.com/XERUN-Competitio...ht_4070wt_1139

Any place else, preferable in the US for faster shipping times?
