How are you planning to use the external bec ?

You have 2 options

1. External bec to power servo only, will require routing of the servo signal wire

2. External bec connected to RX, will require disabling of the ESC's internal bec

Spektrum RX can handle between 4.8 and 9v

Cheers

Possibly a 3rd option, isn’t the FX only rated for 2S? Assuming that’s all you run, why not just skip the external BEC and simply run the main battery power to the receiver and HV servo? Of course still need to disable the power from the FX BEC (pull and insulate the red wire going to the receiver).

Nice and simple, only drawback I can think of is if there is a problem with voltage sag caused by the ESC/motor, since it wouldn’t have the regulation stage that a BEC would provide. Maybe throw a cap in to provide some regulation. Either way amp draw for the servo shouldn't be much of a problem.

Thoughts, anybody try it this way?

Yeah that would work Dave

2s pack could also be wired to servo and internal bec can still be used for the RX

I just assumed it was going to be used for more than 2s

Cheers

That would seem to be the main risk, not forgetting that you can't go higher with the main pack. I checked the Tekin site before posting, says 2S or 9 nickel cells for the FX. More than 6 nickel cells wouldn't be advisable.

Been thinking about trying this myself for a while, just need the HV servo.

Regards

I'm keen to try one of those HV servos in my Slash, if anf when my ACE DS1015 dies

Curious if they can actually handle 8.4v (fully charged 2s pack)

I have an existing ccbec so will just run 8.4v to the RX if thats the case

Cheers

What other stuff are you talking about ?

Set the external bec for 7.4v, connect it to the Reciever

Disable the ESC internal bec

Bobs your uncle

How do you disable the internal bec?

Generally one needs to pull and insulate the positive (typically red) wire from the ESC servo plug that goes to the receiver.
