Default New some help on RC2 Decoder.

The track I help Co-operate is small. We setup, race and then tear down the track all in one night (we run old school carpet offroad).

We dont have alot of money, Mylaps wants $2100 + my RC2 decoder for a new RC3 decoder. Well, cant afford it...
The new laptops out have usb only, we use Alycat software, but the usb driver is for 32 bit, not 64 bit. Alycat has no need to produce a 64 bit driver due to the new decoders use Ethernet port.

I have heard some computers have both 32 and 64 bit OS on them, but when I ask at the local best buy etc, they have no clue what I am talking about.

My question is, IS there a way for me to get around this situation? Has anybody else come across this situation? How do you fix it without spending big $$$$ on new decoder box? In windows 7, does the compatibility mode work on the usb drivers if switched to windows xp?

Any help is appreciated.

Arrow Rebuild or another cheap laptop

Hi Jim,

Can't answer all your??? but whats wrong with your old computer? Can you just clean it out... reformat/replace hard drive, add memory? And just make this a dedicated "race puter"?

I'm using a 10 year old Dell 4100... windows 2000... but I have an rc3 decoder. I know somebody with an rc decoder, and they are using windows 98

Hey Ed

Its a Dell Inspiron 8100. The memory is max, and it is running Windows XP but with service pack 2. If I add service pack three, it will increase the size of the OS by nearly double. I have no extras at all, no anti virus etc. It doesn't connect to the internet so Im not worried about virus's. Think it has 25 running processes at the most. This is our dedicated laptop.

The CPU has a hard time with the entire system. Ive been thinking, most desktop computers still have the serial port, that may be my only way out, short of someone writing a usb driver for windows 7 64.

Didn't want to go that route, but may have too.

Sounds like it should fly.. but I'm not familiar with Alycat.

I'll give you my specs.. don't know if it will help

About four years ago my HD crashed, and I wound up putting in a larger faster drive... that was a big difference... then added more memory too.

Mines a Dell Inspiron 4100 Laptop 60g 7200rpm (think... was a 20g 5400), windows 2000 sp4, & Autoscore. I have antivirus.. have about 42 processes running. Runs the race program fine... but can't do much else when thats going on. Can't use it for music... that stalls the race program.

I don't think that serial port is the same. The one on my desktop looks like an HDMI port... think its a serial ATA

You could look into Virtual PC from Microsoft. Its a free application that you can install on a new computer and when it is running you then install the OS of you choice like XP or even 98 in that window. Then you can run your software in that environment.

I used to use virtual pc to run old games on new computers, but I havn't touched it in a while.

I have heard of people using the virtual pc, and everything works like normal, usb, printing etc. You need to have Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate to make it happen.

I would need to get a serial to usb adapter as well.

I'm no guru...

But that sounds like a lot to go wrong.. An OS to run a program, to run an OS, to run the race program, through an aux card...

If it works glitch free, let us know.

Here is another adapter I found, says it will work with Vista 32/64 so I will assume, it will work on Windows 7.

Syba Adapter

Even if I get a newer laptop (300 bucks) with no serial port, this may do the trick.

Does anybody else having any ideas on this issue. I know Im beating on a closed door here, because within 2 years, the rc4 transponders (not hybrid) will be the mainstream, and rc2 wont pick them up. I hate AMB, every 4-5 years, they change cause their sales drop. Cant make money by only selling transponders...

Default AMB 20

Hi I have exactly the same problem. We are running a Pentium 4 with Windows XP I have serial and USB ports but during the Laps Free setup I keep getting "NO COM PORT FOUND" Any solutions out there would be greatly appreciated. We bought the AMB 20 used was it supposed to come with drivers? AMB told me I had to contact the software mfg.
