So I have a mamba max with a castle 1/10 7700 kv in a a more or less stock slash. It has proline wheels and tires but no major changes. I run a 2s lipo by elite and I just play with it. It seems I cant run for more than about 20 minutes without it getting really hot. I geared it down a couple teeth on the pinion to try to reduce the load on the motor but it didnt really seem to help. Any suggestions? I think it should be reasonable to run it hard through a whole battery pack without worry in a truck this size. Thanks.

I ran a Castle 5700 and it ran hot in my Slash regardless of what gearing was. That motor will only run cooler in something that doesn't weight as much.
Look at the chart at the bottom, Castle doesn't recommend anything above the 5700 in a Slash -

I would not suggest any Castle motor other than the Castle-Neu motors for a short course truck. On top of that you got the 7700, which is a touring car/drag motor. You will be much better off just trading the 7700 or using it in another car, as it will have a very short life in an SC truck. Plenty of motor options out there at reasonable cost or very low cost depending on your budget. Of course check out the Castle-Neu motors, Traxxas Velineon motor is a popular choice, and Hobbyking or Hobbypartz will have a nice selection of cheap motors that are typically very good for the money. Just a quick list to check out, sorry if I left out anyones favorite brand. Your Mamba Max ESC will run nearly any sensorless motor available.

I can relate! I had a MM 5700 and bought a Sidewinder 4600 thinking it would be better. But no. In a stock weight Stampede VXL I had to battle heat. Found 14/90 and a ESC fan was my only option for the Pede with the 4600. I have it in my new Evader EXT2 and its lite and does well in it. I had to gear easy in my Slash aswell. I would keep the ESC and pick up another motor. I tried a 7700kv in a Speed T on-road and it felt like too much. Thats just me. I have a Reedy 3300kv 540 here thats used but perfect for SCTs. Its decently fast with good pick up. I had it in a Slash and it felt good. Very controlable/drivable on 2s. PM me if interested. Id let ya have it cheap Im not using it.

The truck had a sidewinder with the 5700 and it got so hot it burned up. Thats why I got the 7700. guess that was the wrong way. I just got an rs4 rally and maybe ill put the 7700 in there with it turned down and get something else for the slash.

I know Castle recommends running that with a MM, but try the Sidewinder and see if it gets hot. I ran a 5700 with a Sidewinder on 2S and there was no heat at all.
Just check temps after a few min. Temps will tell you if its ok or not.

didnt know you could get 20min out of 1 bat and two run it that long strait
good luck finding some thing thats not going to be hot after 20min strait.

Yea! 7700 was way the wrong way! LOL..... Should have went 4600. Maybe look into VXLs. There 3500 or a Tacon from Hobbypartz. As good as any high dollor motor. They have 3200, 3500 and the 3930 which is my personal Favorite. Good mix of torque and top end speed. Leaves alot of room to play with gearing. Run really cool! I promise you wont get a better motor for twice there cost. Or I'll let ya have the 3300kv Reedy motor for $30 shipped

I had the 5700 and it fried. For all the hype about these motors and at the rate we sold them when I worked at an rc shop I gotta say that I'm a little disappointed. I used to sell these things left and right and people loved them. I can't seem to make a castle product function well these days at all.I got a new slash for 100.00 and then put a castle mm and 5700 in it for 180 and a couple days later fried chicken. extra crispy style. Not thrilled. Think I may try one of those tacon motors. I could afford to blow one of those from time to time and they seem to have pretty decent results. Thanks everyone.
