Airtronics/ Sanwa MX-3X.

However, you can't go wrong with the Spektrum. I would recommend the DX3R though.

Might sound weird to use x-mas money to buy something used BUT IMO if you only run electric I see no reason to buy a 3S, all the telemetry stuff is ment for nitro. Yes some wire it up to check battery voltage and stuff but from your other posts you seem to be more of a racer than a basher which you don't need any telemetry for. Back to my monsy point, you can find a nice used 3R for the price of a new 3S.

What do you have for a radio know??

I have the DX3R. Upgraded from a POS Airtronics entry level model ($99). I also was talked out of getting the DX3S as I do not run Nitro and I have had no regrets. It has been awesome. It is great for off road. I am getting into on road and it doesn't seem as "crisp" so I am thinking m11X. I think that one may be out of your price range.

Over a rtr radio the "feel" of an aftermarket upgraded radio is worth the money to me. Honestly for 95% of people the 3S and 3R will work the same. Both have the features that you'll use most often. I've driven with both and personaly like the feel of the 3R vs. the 3S. and I like the layout of the menus on the R.

Maybe you'll have a REALLY good x-mas and you can solve all your problems and just buy a Futuba 4PKS

The radios previously mentioned are all great radios! The technology is very similar between them all. Some have features others dont. Once you have an idea on how much money you want to spend then go to the LHS and physically hold the radios. Find the radio that is most comfortable for YOU. I personally use a DX3R. I found for me it was the most comfortable and has the functions I need for both electric and nitro. To me comfort is a must. Holding an uncomfortable radio for a 30+ minute main will really affect your driving...

X2.

I had set in my mind to get the DX3R, but when I held it next to the other radios. It did not fit my hand well. The m11 felt bulky/heavy to me. Would like to hold the Ko Propo (its ugly though). And I fell in love with the 4pk, and for crawling, 4 channels didn't hurt either.

I really don't think that you will go wrong with any of these, just pick the one that feels best, and practice, practice, practice!

Have a look at the specs on the Airtronics website.

The price is also fantastic for someone on a budget.

You guys complaining about poor balance/comfort etc must have always used trigger radios.. let me tell you even a RTR trigger feels better in the hands than a dual stick tx once you've got used to it..i think i'll probably drive better too once i get used to good trigger radios.

My own 2c is that there's a few quality control probs with the DX3S - mostly the scroll wheel has had a few complaints about it breaking.. i was sorely tempted to buy a 3s till i read about that.. very poor considering its cost and the cost of its replacement RX. Not heard such complaints about the 3r.

The telemetry on the 3s would be good even for an electric basher.. but it'd be the kind of thing where i'd put the telemetry set in on the first few runs of an initial build to keep check of voltages and temps etc.. and when i'd changed anything significant.. but for normal running i'd have a cheaper, standard rx in there.. would be a slight help in initial tuning but a waste of money thereafter

KO and Airtronics have been top brand radios as long as i've been in rc (15+yr) and i rarely hear anything but good things about their products, so it might be a good idea to research their models within your price range first before you fall in with the spektrum herd.. i think it was the airtronics mx-3x i was looking at the other day? that looks like a very nice radio for the money.. i really suppose it depends on what you're upgrading from and how happy you were with it,and what could have been more to your liking about it?

need more input lol
