Default Battery Question

Hey I just got into Nitro and I got a USED truggy. I have only ran electric previously and I always used niHM's and Lipo's. Well the truggy I got has a ProTek RC 6.6v 1700mAH LiFe battery in the receiver box. Is a LiFe battery the same as a A123 battery? It only has a balance port on it and a servo type plug on it. I do not know the name of the servo type plug. I have a ONYX 230 which says it charges LiFe battery's but since it is not a balance charger and only has a deans plug on it. How do I got about charging the LiFe battery. Same with the Bump box. It has a huge 12V battery in it with a deans type connector. Do I have to charge that battery with a car battery type charge? I appreciate any help!

Thanks!

I wish I knew. The deans connector is what goes to what looks like 2 775 motor? I would imagine thats what I charge it through. This is whole new world to me. I have tryed to find the answer myself before I made this thread but I did not have much luck. The bump box I have if a ONFA blue box I think. And instead of using the 12V battery thats in there would there be any issue hooking up 2 2S 5300 lipo's in there instead of the 12V?

If it is a 12v battery and it is big then it has to be a gell cell. You can use a car charger to charge these just trickle it at 1 or 2 amps. Some chargers also have a feature that will say PB or Lead Acid this is also a mode for chargine gell cells.

As for the LIFE pack. Just dont worry about the balance plug its just like charging lipos you dont have to use it. For the connector you need to invest in a squid, there are several ones out there common sense, racers edge just to name a couple.

Do you know if LiFe and A123 are one in the same? I hope so.. LOL. I just setup the LiFe battery on my CellPro 10S under A123 and it is letting me charge it. Normally if there is any issue with what I am trying to do the charger detects the issue and making a alarm sounds and will not let me perform the action. So it must be the same thing.

If you have a life mode on the charger then use it. I would not charge the life battery any other way. In the starter box you can use 2 2s batteries just make a harness to get the voltage up to 14.8. The lead battery, like above charge at 2-4 amps. It will take awhe to charge and I wouldn't use it personally but it will work. If you have more questions about connectors post a picture.

Alright, Thanks! I think I am going to pull the huge battery out of the box and just use the lipo's. I actually charged the LiFe battery on A123 mode on my charger and it charged it just fine. I might screw it up. But O well. Even if I did not ruin it I would prolly just buy a new battery anyways cause I do not want to buy a new charger for one battery. I'lll stick to lipo's.

Make sure your servos can handle the voltage

LiFe and A123 are the same..

Jaz LiFe runs at 6.6volts, so the voltage won't be a problem..

Yes but he said he would just switch over to Lipo if it didnt work. Wanted him to know that his servos may not handle the Lipo

a123 is a brand name and they came out and licensed a particular formulation of lithium iron phosphate. 'LiFe' came later.

They are both the same as far as min and max voltages, but the orig a123 cells are far more robust than Life cells which sometimes need breakin and conditioning.
