Default lipo worries

I have the ProTek 4200 30c saddle pack battery and I use the protek R/C 106b+ charger. While balance charging the pack at 5 amps The pack got to 8.5 volts. I discharged on the same charger to around 7.6 volts and then proceded to balance charge them again. When they got to 8.41 volts I turned off the charger. Is there something wrong with my battery or my charger? Is the battery safe to use?

Fully charged 2s lipo should terminate at 8.4v

Not sure why you saw the 8.5v

What are your other settings ?

lipo balance speed (slow, normal, fast)
lipo balance setting (always / storage / cv phase)

Cheers

but that is what worries me. I turned the charger off when I noticed that it hit 8.5 volts. It would of kept charging if I wasn't paying attention.

Voltage indicated on the screen can sometimes be a little higher

Check the individual cell voltages while charging, they should not go above 4.2v

Cheers

Ypur charger is the same as the iCharger 106b and to be as accurate as possible, it prob needs to be calibrated. If thats something you're interested in, read this 1st page of the iCharger posts on RC Groups. The calibration is covered there -

You might want to update the charger as well depending on what version FW its currently running. They have taken care of numerous bugs that have been found.

At least if the charger reads in error its on the high side which is actually safer that the other way around.
