Default a quick battery/esc question

now i bought 2x 20c 3300 2s mah lipo yesterday and i want to know if they are going to run my hobbywing 150 amp esc.

ive seen vids and people running the same kind of thing and i was just making sure that im doing every thing right

I see no reason as to why they shouldn't work.

Just one question: What brand? As cheaper quality packs (i.e. Zippy, Turnigy, Integy, and basically those batteries $50 or less) won't last as long and may not be very high quality.

Without knowing your motor/car/gearing it is difficult to give you an accurate answer. I can tell you that a typical setup using a 150A ESC is going to need more than a 20C 3300mah battery.

Seems expensive for that size pack

What motor are you planning to run ?

Batteries need to be able to support the amps your battery requires, esc just passes them through

A 150 amp BL ESC simply indicates that it can supply the motor attached to it with 150 constant/continuous amps. A 20C 3300mah 2S lipo battery is capable of a constant/continuous output of only 66 amps. Connecting 2 of these same batteries whether in series or parallel will still only provide 66 constant/continuous amps output.

If the motor in your rc car/truck draws more than 66 amps constant/continuous from the 20C 3300 lipos then your batteries will be destroyed. Lipo batteries will also be destroyed if they cannot provide the surge amp draw of the BL motor.

With the cost of lipos it is then well worth the time and effort to check the maximum constant/continuous and surge amp draw of your BL motor. Scroll to the near bottom of this link for an example-

Not quite correct mate

Connecting packs in parallel does in fact double the discharge capability

ie
Single 3300 mah 20c pack = 66 amps cont. discharge

2 x 3300 mah 20c packs in parallel (makes it an 6600 mah 20c pack) therefore = 132 amps cont. discharge


paul,

In order to be safe with those packs you would need a motor that has a burst power rating of 130 amps or less (900w or so)

well i went back to the shop and got my money back anyway so ill just put it towards getting some decant packs.

Lots of confusion about this - it does in fact double the amps the paralleled lipos can discharge as pointed out by crusey_aus.


The confusion is about the C rating. Putting lipos in parallel does not change the C rating. Parelleled, these would still be 20C rated lipos.
