Default Spektrum Receiver Antenna Replacement Help

I found out from spektrum that the 8.5" antenna measurement starts at the circuit board, the guage is 22. I used a multiple strand wire (7 wires) , worked briefly then wouldn't connect. I temoved the antenna and it worked fine. It's a 3001 Pro receiver. What am I doing wrong

if someone could please tell me where to solder the antenna id appreciate it. If you own a 3001 pro and can dissasemble and take a pic, id greatly appreciaTE it!
