Thunder AC6 charger drops to .1 amps while charging from 4.5!
Just got my charger and finally got the adapter to charge my lipo with. I set it to 4.5amps and for the first 20-25 minutes everything is going great until it starts dropping in amps. It slowly kept dropping until it hit .1-.4 amps while charging. Why?
Same thing happen with usb's. Great 30+ megs a second write/read yet drops ti 10 megs or so at the end. Did i get a bad charger?

Because thats what its supposed to do. Lipo charges at constant current (CC) until the max cell voltage of 4.2v/cell is reached. Charger then switches to constant voltage (CV) while holding max voltage and lets lipo top off. You will see current drop to near zero during this period. This is the way the CC/CV lipo charge routine works. Nothing wrong with your charger.

Oh, that's good. Btw, you said CC twice. You meant to say CV in the second one i see. I just never had a screen showing this on my old one, so never seen it do this before until now. Thanks.

Most lipos are rated for a 1C charge rate, which takes about an hour whatever size it is. Some newer packs can be charged faster, but I don't recommend it.

This chargers competiton used to be the Accucel-6 charger sold by HobbyKing, but its somewhat out of favor since it requires international shipping from HK. I have noticed that HK keeps dropping the price on it, its now down to $23, but its a DC powered charger and needs their $16 power supply. Then you have S&H on top of that and the wait.
Thunder AC-6 is a hard to beat deal for a 50watt balancing charger.
