drop down wheel for dx3r

I've seen this sweet drop down wheel on many of the Team Losi racers DX3r radios. I was told this would eventually be available for the public by one of the team drivers. But this was about two years ago. I held the radio and it was really a nice improvement. The drop down wheel basically puts the wheel closer to the same axis or just bellow the axis of the throttle. The drop down wheel adapter is made of a lightweight material so the radio is still lightweight. I can say without a doubt- if this drop down wheel was available for purchase, I would buy it for my DX3r radio in an instant. In fact, if the drop down wheel adapter was available for the DX3r, I wouldn't be looking for a different model radio right now. I've specifically been looking at radios which have the drop down wheel adapter- as an option to purchase.
PS. I was most recently told that there are no plans for Losi to release the DX3r drop down wheel adapter to the public- but that could always change if demand for the DX3r drop down wheel adapter became overwhelming. I'll post a picture of the drop down wheel adapter onto this thread first chance I have. I've considered trying to make one or have one made, but have decide to purchase a new radio which already has the drop down wheel adapter made for us to purchase.

Wow, that is totally awesome indeed. If you would, please see if you can find that information again, and post the thread or link here on this thread so we will have access to it. I know everyone I've asked that owns the DX3r radio say they would like it to have a drop down wheel adapter which would allow the wheel to sit much lower than it does now. I'm in the middle of posting a picture of Adam Drake holding a DX3r radio with the drop down wheel adapter on it. Thank you for the information by the way.

Why is the dropdown wheel even an option with all the transmitters? It seems to me that if it's available, people buy/use them. I also use one on my KO EX-1ur. Is there some reason that radio manufacturers don't just build them this way from the start?

You have a very good point. 99% of the radios I've seen at the tracks which have the drop down wheel adapter made for the radios as an option- have this optional drop down wheel adapter added to the radios as an aftermarket upgrade.
Your idea makes me think of the M8, M11 and even the latest M11x which all have the wheel in a much lower position, and close in proximity to where a drop down wheel adapter would place the wheel.
I know the 4PK and now the new 4PKS both, I believe come with the drop down wheel- giving the owner of the radio the choice of using the drop down wheel option or not. I think the choice to use the drop down wheel is a good option to give people. I certainly prefer the location the drop down wheel adapter places the wheel. As many pro racers as we see also prefer this wheel relocation as well.
From what I've seen at the track, a couple of the fastest racers in the word which use the DX3r radio are and have been racing with this Drop Down Wheel Adapter for quite some time now. As a racer myself who very much like the more natural feel of the DX3r radio with the adition of the drop down wheel after holding it, I'm at the point where I'm now looking for a radio that gives me the choice to use the drop down wheel (relocation) adapter.

The Spektrum DX3R Pro is the one with the drop down wheel. It should be available around the end of the year and will have a backlit screen and some programming enhancements.
Not sure if the drop down adapter will be available as an optional part for the DX3R according to my sources at Horizon.

Because they can make more money off of you. 2nd, not everyone uses them. I hate them. i think the KO multi-angle adapter is the best option, but i wont be running it.

Giving people the choice of using a drop down wheel adapter seems to be the best solution- being that some people absolutely love the feel of having the steering wheel closer to the same height or axis as the throttle trigger. While others prefer to have the drop down wheel removed from their radios. It's a win win situation to give people the choice to use the drop down wheel adapter or to leave it off or at least be able to take it off. Many people have told me if the DX3r wheel was lower or closer to the axis of the throttle- they would like to buy the DX3r radio. And nothing I say about the lightweight or how much I like the radio other than this one limitation- can convince them otherwise. I first learned about the drop down wheel almost two years ago from one of the Losi Team Drivers who let me hold his DX3r radio which had this same drop down wheel adapter as pictured above- already on the radio. That's a very long wait to hope that a product will eventually come out. I've had high hopes for this drop down wheel to be released to the public- for those of us that wish to have the choice of a drop down wheel adapter on our DX3r radios. Choices are great things to have, and frustrating to not have. I'm quite cetain I'll not find a radio as lightweight as the DX3r with the drop down wheel adapter- but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. A heavier radio but will feel more comfortable in my hands. Though I believe someone will eventually make an extreemly lightweight radio which also gives us racers the choice of running the drop down wheel adapter. To me- this will be the ultimate radio.
But I realize this will not be for everyone, but if this new UltraLightweight Radio gives people the choice to use the drop down wheel adapter or not- this vastly increases the number of people that would buy such a radio. It seems it would satisfy both people which prefer the drop down wheel placement of the wheel- and those which prefer the wheel to sit much higher up away from the axis of the throttle and brake trigger. And with companies giving themselves this extra option part as one many people will buy- it becomes another way to make more money for the company- if offered as a seperate option not included with the radio. Or the drop down wheel adapter could be shipped with the radio which also would be awesome
Me too- and I would not be able to stop smiling from extreem happyness and gratitude

And I completely agree with you- The KO ProPo Drop Down- Multi-Angle Wheel Adapter- is my very favorite of all the Drop Down Wheels made to date. It gives us the ability to both drop the wheel down to the same axis as the throttle- and goes beyond this to also allow a swivel ability which allows the wheel to be angled away from us toward the track- in adition to dropping the wheel down onto a much lower axis. This by far is my favorite type of drop down wheel, though I could be happy with at least a basic drop down wheel adapter as well.
And make racing allot more comfortable and natural feeling when running the buggy all day back to back battery packs. I do wish Losi(Horizon Hobby) would make this drop down wheel relocator/adapter available to the public someday soon. This would truly put a smile on many DX3r radio owners practice and race days
PS. Keep in mind- allot of what determines which prototypes make it into production is determined by the demand for any particular product or accessory or hop up/option part. The DX3r has been one of the best selling radios to date- and this drop down wheel relocator/adapter would likely be an explosive success for most people that already own the DX3r and would like to experiment with relocating the steering wheel on their DX3r radios- such that many of the Losi Team Members found this drop down wheel adapter to be a great and comfortable improvement.
My understanding is that one of the Losi engineers made the first prototype drop down wheel relocator in his Garage which also functions as his personal machine shop. I forget his name- but a very nice and extreemly friendly person, made this drop down wheel to create a more comfortable and natural feel to his radio- as you can see- his project is a success.
