I think ShoeGoo is a type of neoprene, not silicone, so it may be safer.

I'm not sure about this; just throwing it out there....

Take it easy,

Yeah some brands of silicone sealants made for aquariums do give off chemical vapors as it cures just like all glues, but I wouldn't be too worried about it. Acetic acid in liquid form are indeed corrosive to some types of metals but in vapor form the concentration is so low and in the short period it takes for silicone sealant to cure it does no harm whatsoever to RC level electronics. However there are some brands of silicone sealants that only give off petroleum based vapors which is exactly the same given off by shoe goo.

With that said, if you had a constant supply of acetic acid vapors surrounding mission critical electronic SENSORS like on the space shuttle then that would be different.

To be honest, I'd be more worried about water vapor in the air over time doing damage to RC electronics than a few hours of acetic acid vapors in a well ventilated area during the curing process.

So you guys are using Shoe Goo instead of 2 sided tape to mount your electronics? Back in the day I would use 2 sided tape and the Goo.

I think you'll find that everyone has their own way of mounting electronics. Some use Shoe Goo, some use double sided servo tape, some use velcro, some use zip ties and some use various combinations.

Shoe Goo and/or Silicone sealant are good for sealing out water from your electronics to make it more water resistant. I don't see why you'd need to use it for mounting electronics though.

I just mounted some electronics with the Shoe Goo. All I got to say is I'm hooked. I always had some problems mounting with tape used the Shoe Goo and no issues:)

I use industrial 3M Double sided tape. Leaves no residue. Super Strong. I dont like the smell of shoe glue, messy also.

I was just made aware that in the electronics industry they use something called RTV silicone sealant. The cool thing is it's designed to be used with electronic circuit boards so it's completly safe so you don't have to worry about acetic acid.
