Here's A Wierd One

Just purchased a 3PK from eBay with an advertised display issue. Only the top half of the display was showing an digits. After dis-assembly I discovered one of the three ribbon cables that comprise the display sub-assembly had a hole in it. Actually, two of the conductors decided to separate thereby leaving, well, a hole in the cable! I think this is very strange. I've been a ham for several decades, had many radios completely apart and have repaired several Radio Shack scanners with display problems but have never seen a failure like this one.
I am curious to know if any of you have had this type of failure in the 3PK. I hope Futaba has this little ribbon cable in stock. I'm guessing not since it is somewhat obscure unless they have experience with this problem.
Cheap fix for a $60.00 3PK with a Spectrum module huh?

I'd check with futaba, since they sell industrial radios and parts they might have the ribbon. Go to www.Futaba.com instead of www.Futaba-RC.com
