Default Help me decide on a charger please

Ok Ive been looking at chargers/info for the last 3-4 days and I cant seem to pick one. It needs to be AC/DC, charge NIMH and Lipo..etc, reliable and user friendly.

  • Bantam E-Station BC6 NiCad/NiMH/LiIo/LiPo/LiFe/Pb (AC/DC) Balancing Charger
  • Hyperion EOS 0606i Li/NiMH/A123 AC/DC Balancing Charger (6S/6A/50W)
  • Racers Edge AC/DC Pro Multi Charger W/Aluminum Case
  • Dynamite Passport Ultra Lipo/Life/Pb/Li-Ion AC/DC Battery Charger/Cycler (6S/8A)
  • Triton2 EQ AC/DC Charger Balancer
  • Suggest One

I get lost when I start reading about charging rates, watts and amps. My last charger was a mrc super brain 989 and it worked good for me but I was only using it to charge nimh's.

Thanks

I have had great success with the Elite 6i Balancer/Charger AC/DC that I ordered from cheapbatterypacks.com. The owner there swears by these things.

www.cheapbatterypacks.com.

About 75 bucks SHIPPED

Thanks for the reply. Dam another charger for me to look at lol. Ok so there saying that the Elite 6i is similar in performance to the Hyperion 0606i but there a $60.00 difference between the two. So what does the Hyperion do that the 6i cant?

It seems there's is alot of chargers on the market right now that are internally the same. There just putting the guts in a different shell and slaping a logo on it.

Of all of the chargers you have listed at some point I have owned or used most of them and the Dynamite passport Ultra is the most user friendly one of the bunch. It is like a Duratrax Ice charger only with a much simpler setup display. It is the charger I suggest to all of the new comers at our track because of its simplicity, and its in that $120-$135 range depending on where you buy so its not that expensive. just my 2 cents...

Yeah I like that charger too thanks for the reply. The only thing I didnt like about it is that it doesn't have any memory presets. I guess you cant have it all lol

You're right about that - the Asian/Chinese clones are same inside, just diff on outside with colors and buttons or connections.

The only two I would consider are the Dynamite Passport Ultra and Triton2EQ. They have the most charger output power of those listed at 100watts. All the others are 50watts. The Triton2 EQ is another 50% more expensive than the Passport and I don't see what that extra buys you.

The Elite looks like another clone and is prob 50watts like the Thunder AC-6 thats sold by Hobbypartz.

Dude don't waste your money. Most of these things are repackaged Chinese chargers charging triple the price! For instance

Trinity IBalance, , everyone knows Trinity sells good products right? It charges everything, balancer, slices, dices the works. Retail $299, they "discount " it making you feel like you are getting a deal at their sell price $184.95!!

Now take the Thunder AC 6/Skycharger BC6 (same thing) from Hobby Partz, they don't do the whole mark up to mark down thing..... its a plain and simple $55 bucks plus shipping. Can be at your door for $59 bucks in a few days.

Do you think the chargers look a little too similar? thats because they are THE SAME THING!
Just $129 cheapers........ Oh lets see you can have a MAMBA MAX for that extra savings! Or just get and EZ Run ESC for additional savings.
I bought the Thunder power and am very pleased with it! UR choice!

(note) I am all for buying American made products and supporting our economy, but i can't justify spending 4x as much because Trinity bought it for $15 and you put their $175 sticker on it........

If Im not mistake the passport comes with a 5 year warranty and the eq2 only has a 1 year warranty. So its not only cheaper but has a better warranty....now if only a-main had them in stock lol

The passport may not have a true memory but it does remember the last setting you used. So if you have Nimh packs you charge at a certain setting and then switch to a lipo setting, when you go back to the Nimh pack the settings will be right where you left them and vice versa.

Tell me about it ghostrider....

Losi didnt even change anything on there MultiPro Intelligent Balance Charger when they went with a rebadged china charger $109.00 plus $25 for the power supply.

You can find the same charger, same color on ebay minus the losi logo for $40.00

Hi all! This is my very first ever post here...I was racing rc in the late 90's and have been away since 2000...just now looking to get back into it. Wow, have things changed!

Ok, I'm posting because even though I've been away for a long time, the whole China clone/name brand thing I have much experience with. I ran a business for a few years selling motorcycle racing stuff, and through that I have much experience with Chinese clones, Chinese manufacturing etc. so I wanted to point this out:

Don't assume that the no-namers you see are the same parts. Sometimes they are, but more often they aren't the same, but they are direct copies, but may (usually do) use inferior parts, have lower quality control, etc. I have not researched these chargers to know which way these particular ones go (are the name brand ones re-badged, or are the no-names cheaper copies) but just don't assume is all I'm saying.

Also, it is definitely true that some of the knock-off copies will actually work great, and have no problems, and I'm not gonna preach about buying copies of other people's work, or anything like that. It would be great if someone with access to both of one of those models would open them up to check for differences, clues, etc.

Anyway, I'll be around trying to figure out wth to buy to get back into this crazy hobby

Later!

I'm leaning toward the passport right now.

Whats the difference in charging between a 50w and 100w charger? Is it really a big difference?

Why are these two chargers popular?

# Bantam E-Station BC6 NiCad/NiMH/LiIo/LiPo/LiFe/Pb (AC/DC) Balancing Charger

# Hyperion EOS 0606i Li/NiMH/A123 AC/DC Balancing Charger (6S/6A/50W)
