You talking about a transponder system? I'm quite sure they are quite expensive (3k range)?? Plus each car needs a transponder unit in the car ($105)

www.alycat.com

easy to use, and the demo works great until you are ready to buy.

You need to check out LapWatcher . It's personal software for your PC that's less than 50 bucks! Does everything your wanting.....it's compatible with the AMB or you can hand count. You can do timed practice runs, create setup sheets, graphs and much more.

Did I mention it also talks? Will announce your lap times in real time! I use a bluetooth headset connected to my laptop!

The ultimate tuning tool!

Well, I can give you two out of the three (easy & tells your lap times)... check out http://www.grenit.com/.

It's a bit over $300, but it's about as simple, and stand-alone as you'll get.....

There's also the Trackmate Iridium system.

http://trackmateracing.com/shopexd.asp?id=147

$170 gets you one overhead unit (enough for 2 foot wide lanes, additional $25 each for additionals to widen the lane coverage), 2 transponders and all the rest of the gear you need (including their own software). Additional transponders are $33 each.

This is more of a track system, not a personal timer for training purposes. Perhaps not totally what you're looking for, but it's quite inexpensive for what it does!

I have not been able to test this yet for myself, but lots of people use this with mini cars with good luck. Its free to download and use, you just need a webcam. My webcam is so slow I need a new one.
