Default Store Mode Hyperion EOS0606i

I just bought a Hyperion EOS0606i and thought I would try the "Store Mode" and when I hooked the battery to the charger and selected the correct capacity and number of cells then pushed the start button I got "CHECK BATT OPEN CIRCUIT".

I do not have the battery hooked up to the balancer. Will this mode work without that hooked up?

Secondly, if you do need the balancer hooked up, how do you use "Store mode" on a single cell pack?

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

got the same charger as yours, think you need to plug in the balancer plug before you do anything on your batT ( if its more than one cell), else you will be getting the error indicated. As for single cell i havent tried it but i think you will still need to indicate the correct number of cell and also the balance plug as you will see that the (+ Positive and - Negative) wires has a small wires (balance wires) that is connected to the balance connector thus the charger will detect the cell/s connected to the charger port.

1S lipo has no balance wires (there's nothing to balance, its a single cell)

I've never tried a 1S, I know I can charge a 2S or better without the balance connection connected, I've not tried storage without balance wires connected.

Empire Hobbies is US distributor and I suggest you try emailing them with this question. They are dealer only, but I've seen them answer questions about the Hyperions chargers on other forums.

You can charge without a balance tap on the EOS0606i with no problem. I always balance mine to keep the voltage balanced between cells but it's not absolutely necessary... just recommended. I think what's happening with Store mode is the firmware assumes 2s+ and requires a tap connector so it can monitor cells during any needed discharge or it errors on you and stops. It's a built-in safety feature that they forgot to add an exception to for 1s in the firmware apparently

Store mode on the EOS puts the cell(s) at 60% by default. Discharge (or charge) your 1s to 2.22v and call it done.

Thats why I said to email Empire, I don't think the firmware can handle a 1S.

I had to charge my a123 5S and 6S pacs for while on my 0610 without balancing so I know that works. It took a while to find the balance wiring I wanted to use and get them wired. Now I balance charge them because its too easy not too.

Thank you all for the replies. I will send a note to Empire Hobbies like Duster sugested. I have Orion 2S packs so I need to make a balancer cable then I will be able to use Store Mode.

Thanks again,

Mike

Default Can Use Store Mode with 1S, but . . .

You can use store mode for 1S batteries, but must use a charging cable that connects the battery to both the banana plugs and the balancing adapter. In effect it is a Y connector.

As a side note, the newer EOS0606i chargers won't charge, discharge or store LiPo and LiFe batteries without connection to the balancing adapter, whether 1S through 6S (safety limitation?). You can do charging and discharging of NiCad and NiMH.
