That was my first thought, but it does look LCDish, I'm guessing EL is electro-luminescent.

When I was backlighting Ice chargers, thats pretty much what a backlight looks like. You'd assume the power was already arranged for in the radio and was a matter of connecting to something that was already there.

Installing one was not a walk in the park, the screen thats there - if its anything like the one in the Ice is thin and has a sticky backing that has a foil cover. Thats got to be removed without breaking the screen. then teh sticky stuff all has to be removed.

You break the screen and its over. I hope this one is easier to install.

Hmm I would really prefer to have a backlit board but maybe its better to be safe, then sorry.

See if you can find someone thats done it - it may be easier for this that what I was doing with the Ice.

If they're available like this, there's bound to be someone out there thats installed one and can tell you just how hard it was to do.
