Default new amb?

ok so im reading between the lines here

with them giving such high discount on your old amb and "clone" im guessing the new decoders, are not compatable with the old bugs......meaning any club buying the "new" decoder wont be able to count laps for those with "old" transponders
im sure this post will get confirmation either way!!

if im right then this STINKS

+100
tracks are gonna have to go back to the hand out transponder if they get the new system. That might not work for huge events though. I am still hoping it will work with existing amb systems

Yep, get ready for it. They realized just about everybody that will buy a new pt has bought one. Everyone else buys 'em used or buys clones from MRT. So they decide to do some repeat business. This is the same as Xray or Tamiya, they realize there are only so many rc racers out there, so they must sell to the same person multiple times.

I think the system will be backwards compatible. The new transponder will work with the old decoders so you can use them when they are available.

Also, If you go the mylaps website and download the whitepaper it does say that the new decoder will be backward compatible with the old RC2 transponders.

At least I hope they will be. They do look cool though

The RedRC article mentions a hybrid unit, to still work with the old systems, until tracks have the new.....yikes.

Sure hope I'm reading too much into this.....

I just got a email from my laps, stating that prices are going up from 5%-7%. So trade in your stuff as soon as possible. Yet the ad says they are cheaper than the current transponders...

Very confusing...

I have the original AMBrc red decoder, wonder how much that will cost me for a upgrade..+

Well, I just read it in detail..guess I cant upgrade.

I honestly think that if they make it where all of our standard Personal transponders are useless with this system that this will go over like a turd in a punch bowl.

NOBODY will buy it for fear of all of their patrons having to upgrade hundreds of dollars worth of transponders.

If this becomes the standard.... I swear right now I'll quit racing R/C and start flying planes.

I've got wayyyyy too many AMB Personal transponders that would instantly become worthless if this takes off big.

Talking POLL LOL

Think we need to take a poll to ease everyones minds...

How many tracks are going to run out tomorrow.... spend $3000 - $3500 plus there trade-in on a new decoder.... and sit empty while they wait for racers to come with the latest transponders.

or

Sell them out right... for $2000 - $2500... only having to spend $1500 -$2000... and still sit empty... while the new tracks that buy the old equipment enjoy all the racers with transponders that work.....

Exactly...

I've got 20 or so of these stupid over priced AMB transponders, and It'd be retarded for me to make a switch.

I agree though... I doubt the tracks are gonna run out a buy this right away. It just wouldn't make good sense.

If AMB was stupid enough to make a new system that was NOT backwards compatible with the old transponders, or to release new transponders that don't work with old systems... They just shot themselves in the foot if you ask me.

Right lets get rid of all these myths. The new transponder will work with any AMBrc or AMBrc3 system. There is absolutely no need to upgarde to the "new" decoder.
I should know, I've got one and have done extensive testing with both AMBrc and AMBrc3 systems.
Suggest you also look at www.bbksoftware.com and see the fantastic deals they are offering.

Nobody cares if the new transponder works with the old
system. The concern is that AMB is getting ready to obsolete the old transponders, which we have invested in to the tune of hundreds of dollars, by dropping support for the old decoders. They are offering deals on upgrades to the new system, which will not use the old transponder. There is your clue. They are definitely planning to move on.

If they were just upgrading, the old transponders would work with the new system. I don't need the race director to know my esc is 125 *F
