Default Lipo Storage?

How kong can lipos be stored for without touching them?

And when I get them out to make sure there ok should I charge full and then use storage mode or just use storage mode to get them back to where they need to be for storage?

Months.

If you're not going to run them when you charge them use storage mode and put them back where you had them stored. Everything I read asys its bad for life to charge lipo to 100% and then just leave it that way.

I had some puff I left for almost 3months when I had to go out of country on business and stayed way longer than I was told I would have to. Those had been left at 50%. I don't use 50% anymore, but 60-80%, usually 80%.

Do not store them fully charged. 60 to 80% is where you want them, when you do store them. And make sure to keep them in a metal box. LiPos will take awhile to discharge on their own, but it's a good idea to check them every other week. Do not let them fall below 6 volts(3 volts per cell), or you'll have a dead LiPo in your hands.

If you have an auto discharging ability 3.7v per cell is where I've been told is a good place to be for storage.

Chargers I use (Hyperion) have a mode that lets you specify the percentage. I just tell it 80% and it charges the lipo to 80% of capacity. I've never really looked at voltage. I will next time out of curiosity.

It won't be 3.7v per cell, that I know

How long is it ok to keep them fully charged? I like to balance charge my lipos the night before a race just so I can set up my bench and go strait to practicing.

You prob don't need to worry about that kind of short time storage. How long? Ntr sure an anybody really knows.

What I've read is routinely charging to 100% and leaving them for a week say between races or uses, is detrimental to long life. SMC is now saying their lipos will puff if treated like this and to store them at low voltage, 7.2v was what Bryan/SMC said to use for 2S (3.6v/cell) and they go by voltage, not by capacity (which is how most chargers that have a storage fcn work...).

I don't think I ever get my packs that low. At least, not normally. So I'll have to start discharging my packs which kinda pains me to do.

At how many amps should packs be discharged at?

You have SMC lipos? Bryans advice was for SMC lipos. Other lipo media doesn't seem to be as sensitive as SMCs.

I'm not changing the way I handle mine - I leave then at 80% when not being used (Neuenergys, flightpower, nexxus and some no-name brands).

OK, didn't know.

I wouldn't discharge at over 1C, few amps prob plenty. You read the post in electric offroad about 'storing' SMCs?
