Weird Servo Issue . . . . Help?
#1
Ok, I have a Futaba 9351 servo that's acting weird. When I first hooked it up the other day I had to dial back the EPA to like 60 on left and right. Then as I was driving it seemed to loose a lot of steering. I brought it in and it was barely turning. So I dialed the EPA up to about 100 and that seemed to fix it. But then the same thing happened. Well now I try to dial it up more and it's just not doing much. Any ideas what's going on?
My setup is the XB808 converted to brushless running a Monster Max with the 4pk radio which made me wonder if it's because the MMM is set at 5.5v to servos. I've heard that the 4pk RX has to run at 6v - anyone have any direction on this one?
Thanks.

that is fine that u have the MMM to 5.5v, 6v would be better for performance. Check to see if the servo is getting hot or making funny sounds like squeking. If it is getting hot, then it is a bad servo. Had the same thing happen to me with other servos, just bad quality. If it is squeking, then it might need new bearings or gears. Check to see if your steering linkage is binding up also. Call Futaba ASAP because you might be still under factory warrenty. I think it is 1 year warrenty but you can have your LHS print a receipt to help you out for the time frame issue.

Thanks for the heads up - I'll check those things. Warranty won't be available though since I bought it used. What's a better servo to use? Can I use a digital servo from Airtronics or do I have to stay with Futaba on the 4pk? I've seen the BLS series but I'd like to avoid spending over $100 on a servo if I can help it.

you can use any servo in the rc world with the 4pk, trust me. That thing is like an alienware gaming computer. The BLS servos are kinda overated I think, The better servos are digital coreless ones from futaba, JR is really good but expensive, but the titanium digital ones from Hitec are good too. Any of these are usually high quility. as for the digital, the 4pk has a seperate setting for that called HRS. This can only be used on digital servos ONLY. PPM or PCM are for analog servos.

Problem solved !!! I had accidentally dialed down the dual rate on the steering while I was driving!!
Yeah, it was way down at about 38. This radio is so new to me I didn't even think about it - never had that issue before with my last radio. Anyway, I'm stoked my servo is good to go. Thanks for your help rcman1993, it caused me to slow down and look into it more.
