brushed motor temps

What's max temp a brushed motor should be?

I raced brushed motors for YEARS, and never worried about temperature once. I geared for torque, top speed, and battery run times, and that was it.

You can't do that with brushless, you can burn them up if they run too hot. I too ran brushed for almost 20 years but temping a BL motor is the only way to make sure it is set-up correctly.

I feel it's best to temp both Brushed and brushless motors. This way you know where your at for gearing.

What I've read is 160F, so its prob in that vicinity. I'd try for a setup that was a little cooler if poss rather than try to run at or near max. Maintenance and motor life will not be the best at max temp conditions.

For brushed motors I have always used a thermometer for stock and spec, mod can be a different story as you don't always use all the power, I am not the one to be giving advice or opinions on mod however as it isn't my class of choice

This is some of the best information I have seen on here regarding motor temps, gearing and setting up you car/truck for your brushless system.

Yeah thanks.. but we are talking about brushed, not brushless.

I ran brushed mods motors last year. I like to run them around 150F to 160F tops on temp.
