Questions?? Duratrax ICE..Can you charge 12V gel battery?

Can you charge the 12 volt gel battery for starter boxes using a Duratrax ICE? IF so, can someone please post the proper settings to use?

Thanks!

The Ice manual only lists NiCd, NiMH, Li-Ion and Lipo, so technically, no. It does not have a setting like my Hyperion 0610i does for Pb. So if there is some kind of special charge termination like peaking is for NiMH, then Ice lacks that since its not designed for a gel cell.

That said, I don't see why you could charge it at 2amp for 3 or 3.5hr as kind of a trickle charge. These are usually 7AH batts (7000mah) so putting 6000-7000mah into one as a trickle should be a pretty good charge. I sure would watch it closely though and quit if it gets hot or start making noise.

Buy a float style charger - Harbor Freight has them for $8 or $9 and you just leave it on the charger and let it maintain the batt. Its always fully charged and ready to go that way.

Thanks Duster. I guess I'll just plug it in to the overnight wall charger as I don't want to mess up anything experimenting. Just wish there was a faster way but oh well....
