Default NiMH woes

Alrighty, I have a Reedy Wolfpack 3600mah NiMH stick battery pack, and a Super Brain 820 charger. Is it normal for the battery's run times to fluctuate a little between charges? Im only using it 3 times a day top, and always ensure the battery is cool before charging it again. Im just asking because before this morning, I got roughly 25-30 minutes of run time and then this morning, after charging it till my SuperBrain said it was done last night, I only got like 10 minutes of run time this morning before my R/C car started slowing down.

The only thing Ive changed is what I do when the battery gets low. At first when my R/C car would start to get weak, Id pick it up and hold the "throttle" until the motor couldnt turn the wheels like that and then wait until it cooled to charge. The past day or so, Ive tried just waiting for it to cool and tossing it on the charger, no running it down because Ive read its not really necessary.

Its charging now after cooling off this morning, and I will see if I get another really crappy run time or not. I want to make sure Im treating my NiMH battery right so that when I start using my Venom 5000mah batteries here soon Ill get the most I can outta them and not ruin them too.

Alrighty, just got done playing with my car before lunch. Got roughly 17 minutes or so of run time. Battery is hot as hell though. lol. And I may definitely need a heat sink for the motor as well, but thats for another thread.

Would over-heating be my problem here or no? I dont really have a way of checking the exact temperature, just feeling how hot it is in my hand. Its gotten really hot, but not so hot that I cant hold it.

If the short run times Im getting with this 3600mah battery are getting it this hot this quick, I dont want to imagine how hot the 5000mah batteries I'll have soon will get over their longer run period. Ick.
