Start here - its discussed in there somewhere or theres a pic of one wired so you can get the idea. Def buy the hyperion 7 wire a123 balance tap harness -

http://www.allerc.com/product_info.php?products_id=3169

Lastly chase down the LBA10 balancer manual, see top of last page I believe for a wiring diagram -

http://www.allerc.com/Pictures/LBA10...Manual-ENG.pdf

The wiring is very literal.

Its really simple, but it takes a little to figure out what needs to be done. I've got some notes somewhere...

Def make sure you follow the wire harness note - all thewires you're actually going to use have to be the same length. My 5S and 6S pacs are big enough, I didn't cut them, just taped them down and out of the way.

I didn't do this on my 1st one, I cut them - that note wasn't posted on All e RC yet and finally had to ask why my 1st pac was taking forever to balance!

...i don't really get it?! what is the LBA10-A123 manual for? just for me to see how to wire the tabs, right? if i have the hyperion duo, do i need anything else to charge the a123 packs? what i don't get as well is: if i want to put balancing tabs on packs that are in series, i kinda get it. but if a pack is also in parallel, how is that gonna work?

thanks,
G

p.s. i have PC power supply that i was using for my sonic a123 systems charger and my triton...it has 255 WATTS at 12V...i should be fine with it, right? why using one that costs $100 bucks?

I'm still looking - you solder the balance wires directly to the cell - Deans solder worked without any probs.

As far as the PC PS - yes, it'll work fine. 255watts - DUO is basically 2 chargers built into one case - that power is shared. If you push the power on both sides, there will be a limit.

I didn't do parallel - I made 5S1P pacs and then externally, wire them in parallel, but I charge/balance them separately. I think you'll have to wire them for two plugs and build a parallel balance harness to hook them up. Not certain about that though....

LBA10 was out really early and Hyperion put a lot of stuff in there that was coming from customers.

DUSTER?!?!?! where are youuuuu?:blush::blush: i need your help buddy. gonna get my tabs today or tomorrow...already have the charger. if you find your notes, let me know asap...

thanks,
G

I'm here - haven't forgotten you. I'll post back when I get home today.

You bought the hyperion a123 harness??

assivaen 03-19-2009 10:36 AM

yes, the one you showed me. they are in the mail. ETA today or tomorrow...
every diagram i see for wiring balancing tabs are for cells in series but not in series and parallel...cant be that hard?!

thanks,
G

Good, think thats half the prob, getting the right harness.

When you get the harness, there is one red wire and 6 black wires. The red goes to "pac positive". I put it right next to the red main power lead going to the deans. For series, there will be one more wire than # of cells. One pac positive and one wire on each. Parallel shouldn't be diff.

If you looked at the RCGroups how to, I did pretty much everything he did, except my 5 cells were in a side by side flat pac arrangement. Number them like he did and wire them in sequence - the 2nd wire in the harness, next wire down from the red wire - the 1st black - is the neg for the cell you used as pack positive. The rest - follow the numbers you put on the cells in order on the plastic connector.

Nice thing - mock this up and connect it and see if it works before you make anything permanent. Some solder will need flux to stick on the tabs, I didn't solder to the cells themselves and Deans solder didn't need flux.

i should have them by tomorrow...i am sure i am gonna screw it up :lol::lol:

Think positive.....lol! I screwed my 1st one up....its allowed. Just test it before you make things permanent, all that strapping tape I had to cut off was the pits.
