I use rechargables to I have has one set for the last two years. I usually charge them once every two weeks just to be safe. When I was running regular AA's I was going through them fast, but never two sets in one day. Just go for the rechargables....the $30 will pay for itself in no time.

Go lipo and be done. This is the one I use, it fits like a great being it's made for the radio and at 3000 mAh it last a long time.

It does not a matter what type of batteries he using. His radio should not go thru 2 sets of batteries in one day. Is your backlight staying on all the time. In any case No this is not normal. You may want to send the radio in for service.

Make sure you are using "alkaline" and not "heavy duty" batteries.
