Laps free does not support usb. It does work with the AMB system you just need to use the old serial cable.

I would like to use it with Free Laps and so I try to connect it to my pc with the USB-cable.

The problem is my PC detects an USB-device but does not have a clue what it is and so, needs drivers for the thing.
(I'm running WinXP on this Laptop).
Anyone knows where I could find these drivers?

thx!

Hi All

all of the above USB TO SERIAL and rs232 pc cards work very well but please ensure your money isnt wasted on cheap serial to usb Cable as nearly all the cheap ones dont work

Part of the Problem with your device manager can be down to Toshiba and Hewllet Packard where the USB chipset had issues in reconizing some hardware including AMBrc decoders and using a serial to usb cable will resolve this issue also would recomend using the network Cable supplield with the AMBrc if using the AMBrc3

from a software point of view BBK ECCO is free and usb compatable and it also has a link to AMBUSB on its website

Hope this helps

Once again the software you using has to support the AMBrc3 connected via the TCP/IP protocol (RJ45). If not your back to the serial port problems!

One more thing: AMBrc3 does not have USB. Only Serial (RS232) and TCPIP (RJ45).

Hi Bob,

Do you have any idea why the AMBrc3 does not have USB? From what I hear people like having the USB and don't like the fact the new decoders don't have it available to use.

That's a question I've asked AMB-USA several times. The only explainable reason they could give was if the software is written for the Linux OS the USB would be useless. In fact they called me for a survey of my likes and dislikes of the AMBrc3, that issue of no USB was one of just a couple of dislikes. One reason I like the USB so much is that the decoder can then be powered through the computer. If you’re using a laptop and have a power failure you have the battery of the laptop as a UPS!

I didn't point out in my previous post that the addition of the TCP/IP protocol is a very good addition to the decoder. What I think is cool is the ability to connect the decoder direct to a wireless router and access it with multiple computers, either wired or wireless!

Thanks for your explanation, I guess there's good and bad about the changes with the new decoder.

I was wondering if anybody had or new of an AMBrc decoder box for sale
We just got the amb20 but it doesn't have teh 232 converter on the back of it
So I guess we haev to have a computer that we can but this card into and run it off DOS
I don't have a DOS version of autoscore if anybody has a copy they could send me that would be great

Thanks for the help

We're using an RC3 decoder with TCP/IP protocol and we're having issues with AMB pt's not being counted. Any help would be awsome. We're using the latest version of RC Scoring Pro. I dont have this issue with with my AMB RC decoder.

promatchracer 02-08-2009 10:19 PM

Can't help you on that problem
I was wondering though if you would sell the extra AMB decoder

A few weeks back ........... I also had the same experience on loss of laps while connected to the TCP/IP Interface.

After a few phone calls to Doug Hays (Rc Scoring Pro), he had recommended to utilize the RS-232 connection via USB, in addition to the "Enhanced Protocol" to be set in my Decoder3 System.

After the changes we have had no missed laps, "my question to everyone"!!!!

Has anyone else had the same issues with using the TCP/IP Interface, and what have you done to fix the issues while utilizing "RC Scoring Pro".

Any feedback as to your resolution to this problem would be greatly appreciated .................... Best Regards!!!

Alex

Check your detection loop and black box at coax cable

Also, avoid metallic items, electrical devices or wires nearby the detection loop

How wide is your loop
Also do you have a Mike or other Electrical cables running near the loop cable
At one of our big races we moved the announcers section and ran the mic cable up right next to the coax for the loop. We didn't realize it at the time but it was causing missed laps We found out about 6 months later when we talked to someone else and they had mentioned it
Hope some of this helps
