not 100% sure, but my advise is:

For onroad: 60A+3S ... 8.5T to 9.5T (or ~4500kv)
For offroad: 60A+3S ... 10.5T to 11.5T (or ~3500kv)

Hi, thanks for all your advise. By the way I cant find a motor from Hobbywing which is between 10.5T to 11.5T. I wish to use 60A esc but only problem is the motor. Can I have you msn so that we can easyly discuss? Thanks.

tkhoo: Check you PM

As for 10.5T or 11.5T, Speed Passion makes those motors. Hobbywing 60A should be able to handle these motors.

I have the manual and have set it up as the manual suggests.
As for gearing, I wasn't too sure on what fdr to use with the 6,000 kv motor. But since hobbywing calls it a 5.5. I tried to get it as close to that as possible.

Currently it is running a 78t spur and a 20t pinion. FDR is a bit low but not much. And as I said it's not getting hot at all.

hardmankam 03-11-2009 08:10 PM

Blacktiger355: Maybe check the sensor wire. make sure its 100% ok. If you have another motor, try it with the ESC to see if the problem goes away. Also, clean your motor & bearings for dirt.

For 5.5T/6000kv, you can set the FDR to be between 10.5 to 12.0 and check the temperature.

hi hardmankam, would like to know your advise. I do plan to get HW 80A esc with 2300kv motor. If I use larger pinion maybe 15T, can the electronic get hot? After calculation i might get ~45km/h speed but I not sure do I can have good torque out of turn..........I not need very fast as I plan to play at track. I will use 3S Lipo. Thanks in advance.

Very informative post hardmankam, I just have one correction:

According to HobbyWing. The 2350kv (3674SL) motor is designed for a maximum of 4s lipo.

The motor they have designed for 6S use is the 4465SL (2000kv).

All information from here.

I am running the sensorless esc. And I don't see how anything could be dirty yet. I only have 5 runs total on it so far in my parking lot.

Hey guys, the price is awesome, But I'm not sure about the brushless set.

Anyone have good feedback on the 25A ESC and the sensor less motor that comes with it?

pyro18t 03-22-2009 02:04 PM

What are you going to be using it in? I personally feel that 25A is a too low of a range and would go with the 35A at least. I have a 60A and 8.5T motor in my Slash and I absolutely love it. Please remember that the 9.5T motors and above are 540 sized cans with 380 sized rotors, which is best used for 1/10th onroad and 1/10th small 2wd offroad (buggies). Some people have had good luck with the 35A and 9.5T and up, in T4's and XXX-T's, but I would still go for a true 540 BL motor. There is a larger thread about the Ezruns in the on road section. Just make sure that you buy the right motor/ESC combo for your aplication... or puff up in smoke you go!

I just burnt a 150 car esc after setting the punch from 4 to 1. I was using 6s 5000 zippy lipo. I was at the race yesterday ran 2 heats of 10mins with 4s 5000 lipo no problem. I changed the setting to prepare for the 30min. The 6s was giving me too much punch so I used the program to set to 1.

When I turn on my esc smoke came out, I meant really like flare type purplish color n the smell was terrible.

Anyone know what went wrong?I emailed HW no reply. Anyone ever successfully contacted HW support?

I was using medusa 2000kv, changed to medusa 1600kv for my main

Pls advise thx

I'll be using it for drifting, what does the number and A stand for? I know KV is the draw rate.

KV is not the draw rate. KV stands for "rpms per volt" the "A" stands for amps which is the max constant "draw rate" that the ESC can handle. IMO 25 amps is a bit on the low side. I would go with the 35A ESC just to be on the safe side.

With 35A will my 7.2v 3000mAh be able to handle it?

pyro18t 03-23-2009 06:24 AM

Yeah the 35A is rated for 7.2V, so you can use ANY 7.2v 6cell, or any 7.4V 2cell lipo. The "MAH" rating on a battery is how long your run time is going to be. The higher the # the longer the run time. You could run a 10000MAH 7.4V lipo if you wanted to.

I'm not that much of a noob :P

Anyways are you sure the 7.2 volt won't bog the motor?
