Default Telemetry hookup question

Another possibly dumb question here.

I was looking at the Spektrum telemetry kits and was wondering how you hook up the battery if you have the telemetry hooked up to the receiver? Is there a splice wire needed or included in the telemetry kit? The instructions for the telemetry only show a direct wire from the telemetry module to the Rx.

what is a Y connector ?

Just a connector that splits one plug into two. Like to drive dual steering servos together, or say flaps on an airplane I believe, or retractable landing gear, etc. Any shop should have them or be able to get them. Like this:
