We use I-Laps at our track and i think it works great.
Also we run Zround software, that is also great stuff.
Never had a issue with not counting laps or glitching on it.

Would recommend it to everyone, but we run it indoors on carpet track.
Don't know how well it works outdoors on offroad tracks.

Dust isn't an issue. The system even works through some paint jobs, so dust won't be problematic.

How many modules are needed to cover a 10-12 foot wide dirt track?
thanks

9 to cover 10ft... 10 to cover the 12ft... each bridge sensor covers 14.5" at 24" of height to the bridge... so depending on which type of vehicle you plan on using will mean if you can get away with a 24" bridge or higher...

I am working on geting a club race here in Maryalnd for On-Road 1/5 scale cars http://lsrcm.com and I was wondering if this system will work on these big cars?
I have a few questions.
#1, From what I have read, the sensor must be placed pointing upwards, but in order to get better signal you guys recomend pointing the transponder thru a clear (unpainted) lexan part of the body, well the windshields are not painted so if we were to install the transponders on the inside of the windshield, which would point the sensors forward at an angle, will the sensors on the bridge pick up the signal??
ALso, how far apart does the transponders and sensors need to be, or better said what is the minimum distance allowed between transponders and sensor?
1/5 scale cars are about 10" tall.
thanks

First of all, iLaps is great.

If there is no place to mount the transponders flat, with a unobstructed view through the windshield, than you should not have any issues, except in a crash, mounting them on the outside of the body on the windshield. You could also tilt the bridge sensors slightly towards the on-coming cars if you are getting missed laps. Preferably mount then somewhere on the chassis, under the body though.

1 - 2 feet from transponder to bridge sensor. My bridge is 1.5' and works fine for 1/10th so 2' bridge should work fine for 1/5th scale.

Cheers

No worries on the car size... as long as you have a spot open in the RX and a clear portion of the vehicle to shoot through thats all that really matters...

The bridge can be upwards of 24" from the ground which is what I was told to do by Craig at ILap for 1/10 scale offroad trucks. Any lower and the bridge sensors will not pick up the full 14.5" of width. I personally would not mount directly to the underside of the windshield as a crash will certainly harm the transponder... but any flat area under it where you can put some velcro will work perfectly...

I doubt its able to handle anything other than normal RX voltage... 2S lipos are 7.4 rated but actually start at 8.4 at its upper end of the charge... you would need a voltage regulator to bring it down closer to the 6v range...

bentgear 09-06-2011 09:19 PM

My racing buddy runs unregulated LiPo and has had no transponder problems so far. Started running that way in the spring.

Thanks for the response guys,

I have spoken to Craig the transponders we have will handle a two cell lipo un regulated no problems.

Cheers

My local hobby store used this system and it is great, when it works. I would say that about 98% of the time it works but recently he has had to reinstall the drivers more frequently which puases our race days. Over all I love this syatem as I can have personal transponders for all of my cars for the same price as 1 amb transponder.

We were talking the other day and one of the local tracks that used the anb system uses a program that says your name when announcing track positions. Is there a lap timing program out there that works with this system that allows you to announce the cars by name? Free ones? How about a system that lets you run a race by laps instead of time?

Sorry, I don't know the name of the program he is using right now but I will find out.

RC Scoring Pro... and you get a free 5-car version with the ILap... the better version is $249

Hi, I am new to this forum..as well as new to this hobby. We are in the process of building a track at our RV Park and are looking for a lap counting system. The "I lap" system sounds really good but there are no posts later than 2011 in this forum. Is the manufacturer/supplier still in business? Is Craig still the "go to " guy?

CraiglC 06-11-2014 11:21 AM

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, we are still very much alive and well.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Contact info is on our site at http://www.rclapcounter.com/

Thanks,
Craig
