soldering tip

I just bought a hakko 936 solder station and I was wondering what kinda tip is best for rc? I know a chizzle tip but what size?

FITO 12-03-2007 10:40 AM

I USE THE 2.4MM CHISEL FOR MOST RC APPLICATIONS AND 1MM CHISEL FOR FINE WORK SUCH AS SERVOS

Joel Lagace 12-03-2007 07:44 PM

love the hakko

I use a 4.5mm for every day soldering: Battery bars, motor tabs, brushes, hard wiring to battery bar ends and motor tabs....

BSchorr 12-04-2007 05:23 AM

Ya, using the small 1-2mm tips for soldering the wires on a servo for when shortening or making servo wire longer.

5.2mm for your batter building, soldering wire to your packs, etc..

Since I cant post ebay auctions, look for the seller, "niosales"

ok well I will give the 4.5 and 5.2 a try first, I want to make sure and get a big enough one so it keeps heat in. Also do you have to use flux on everything? I watched videos and it looks like people dont use flux a lot of the time.

BSchorr 12-04-2007 09:26 PM

Always clean the tip on the sponge before using it, tin it before putting it away. I would shut it off if you use bullet connectors on your packs though. and if u dont plan on taking ur motor out..

C_Money 12-04-2007 09:41 PM

so what about useing flux on the the parts you soldeer though? I didnt see people useing that

Swanny 12-05-2007 03:30 PM

Modern day solders have flux built in to them, hence why you don't see many people using it separately.
