Default Esc and Outrunner

Can someone please enlightened me on the advantages and disadvantages of running a RC brushless Outrunner motor with a RC car ESC. I'm currently building a very large scale buggy that's drivable, and it will have a RC based throttle system I do have a ESCs/MOTORs setup that I'm going with, I'm just brainstorming ideas. Thanks for any insight and knowledge.

If you have equal motors, the normal motor will outperform an outrunner in a vehicle. That's because the outrunner has a much higher inertia so it's slower to accelerate and slower to brake. When you use an outrunner on an airplane, it's not a big deal because you are turning a propeller and it doesn't make a big difference if they accelerate and decelerate less quickly.

The largest with hobby grade you can go is 1/4 scale with off-the-shelf ESC's and inrunner motors. Larger than that, you're looking at specialized controllers and kilowatt-rated outrunners. If you plan on using outrunners, you'll have to have a matched set.

Thanks for the input. I have seen vids online where people used rc speed controllers and RC motors in homemade go karts and buggies, I'm currently building a 1/2 scale buggy that I'll get in and drive. I have dual throttle channels on my spektrum DX5R. Each of those channels will have (4) max4 escs and (4) 70125SD 560Kv motors on 12s and (1) BEC. Final gear ratio will be about 33.3:1 because of tire diameter. I know that there are motors and controllers on the market made for this purpose but this way will be much cooler. The Outrunner/car ESC was just a idea that I wanted some knowledge on, so thanks everyone for the replies.

At that size, even the largest outtunner will be insufficient for your needs. You'll have to find a more specialized shop - your project is almost completely out of our wheelhouse.
