Castle Mamba Monster x Versus Hobbywing XeRun XR8 SCT
I'm running a Losi Ten SCTe 4wd with a Sensored Tenshock 411 4600kv .. I have a EZRun Max 8 non-sensored running it but I can't stand thw hesitation and stumble.. So to those serious in this sport which ESC (or your better suggestion) would you go with .. Sorry if this has been covered 10 thousand times but I have looked and researched and I'm not up to speed on these new electronics.. I'm just getting back into it from the late 80s when we had the old contact point sweep design speed controllers that were run by a servo and electronic escs were something NASA used... Lol thanks

I run the XR8 SCT in my SCTE, but I got a deal on it and the HW motor. I also run lots of other Hobbywing ESCs in other vehicles so it's a convenience thing for me. I do like the ability to bump up the voltage of the Mamba Monster, but I've only needed something like that with my 1/8 Truggy. My SCTE runs perfectly fine with a Savox servo.

What do you mean bump up the voltage? It has a punch control, is that what you mean? I just bought a 1717 and gave the shop a mm2 esc to put into new car with it but he said it hesitates for a second before it goes hard. He thinks the mm2 isnt powerful enough at 120 amps and has suggested it will punch alot harder with the hobbywing ezrun max 6 v3 160 AMP ESC. He might be right, but its strange that the traxxas X0-1 Car used the mm2 with a cap pack as its speedy. Then again that car is made for speed not insane torque off the bat. Im wanting to use the crazy torque off the 1717 to do flips etc.

The Mamba BEC is software controlled, so you can run more than 6 volts.
There could be other things affecting this lag. Punch control is one thing to check. Not sure if the Mamba has LEDs to indicate sensored mode. If for some reason it's running sensorless, that would be another explanation. And last thing to check is your battery. The SCTE is infamous for eating less than top condition lipos, if running 2S. Are you running 2S or something else?
The 1717 is really meant for 4s or 6s.
