Ok so I searched but only found threads with recommendations for motor fans....

My question is....these fans are noisy, what is a decent fan that has a tolerable noise level?

Has anyone mounted one up to an auxiliary channel on their receiver to kick the fan on and off with a toggle from the remote? Assuming you would need some sort of controller?

What's the point? the car driving is noisier than the fan.

Also on most modern transmitters, it's easy to make the fan turn on and off with a switch.

Most run the fan from battery voltage t get the best cooling. Being as the fans are rated at 8 volts, when connected to the receive(6.0v)r, the fans operate at a slower speed so cooling isn't as effective.

Receivers are usually 7.4v if your ESC bec allows it. Only do this if your servo allows HV. If your servo does, you will get better performance from your fan and servo.

All fans seem noisy not heard much difference in them

Honestly the only reasons I could think of were for...

1) Fan longevity, a non running fan has less chance of breaking, and it’s sometimes super cold at the track to the point where you don’t need a fan, so I figured just push button it off to try and save it instead of taking it out or pulling the lead and leaving it loose in the buggy.

2) Being able to shut it off quickly so as not to wake the child and infant in my home when deciding to turn the car on when wrenching at home late at night. Figured a push button was faster in the case I forgot.

I guess when thinking about it now I know it’s probably a dumb idea but was just curious if anyone out there has done it.

It's not hard to connect a relay to the 3rd channel, it can still run off battery voltage.

Theres a dynamite plastic fan thats quiet. Its not even that cheap and being plastic they still break eventually. I like the yeah racing aluminum fans. They never break and aren't too expensive. They aren't too loud connected to the rx but they aren't silent either.

Higher fan RPM = louder fan = more cooling. The fast fans are noisy, but once you start running you don't hear them. I don't see any advantage to turning them on and off with the radio. But for the reasons you mentioned, why not just install a switch?

Maybe add a thermal switch? Should help with both concerns. I searched rc thermal switch and found this:

A BEC with adjustable voltage could be used to tweak speed vs. noise. Or old school diode even.

I've seen a yeah racing aluminium fan break the first time it was used. Mind you the car it was mounted in wasn't in great shape either...

I guess that’s probably the easiest option, lol. Doesn’t have that cool factor though as using the radio would 😂
