Unhappy Here's a tester for the experts

Hi guys,

Over the last few years i've "killed" a few ESCs- they lose all throttle response (some mid race, and most recently before I even put the car on track) but retain perfect steering response. Each time i've tested the motor sensor wire, checked my soldering, and tested the motors to ensure there was no mechanical fault. It happened to an R1 esc and two Hobbywing (XR10 pro and V3.1 1s), with a variety of motors. I could get the motor turning again by manually spinning the wheels with the throttle on my transmitter held down, but as soon as I released the throttle I could no longer get a response. Best I could tell there was at least one phase missing, resulting in no rotation of the rotor.

The only constant this whole time is my Sanwa MT4 transmitter and RX482 wireless receivers, so a crazy thought occured to me- Have any of you ever seen a situation where the transmitter had an issue with not sending a throttle signal/phasing?

Here's hoping i'm not going mad!

Thanks

I've had a receiver take out 3 different esc's and two of them failed in the manner you describe. The one that failed differently went out so hard it took the motor with it. Something inside that receiver was putting too much of a load on the bec in the esc.

yes I have had a rx kill esc but sound like you have more going on than bad tx when a phase is missing a rx has nothing to do w that issue.

Recently I experienced power outages in my 1/10 truggy.
I would loose throttle with-in half a lap running on the track. Pick up the car and the fans are still running, esc has power... just no throttle.
Turn if off and back on and it would work fine, throttle and steering normal. Start to run again and same issue would happen.
Wiggled wires, installed a new receiver, tapped this and tapped that.... no help. Next step I was going to call tekin and see if I had a problem with the esc... (trouble lights on the RSX-Pro noted a power issue.

A fellow racer did some trouble shooting for me and found the problem (possibly two problems). Traced it down to the power wire between the esc and receiver.
1. Trying to make all of the wiring neat and tucked away. I had folded the wire back and forth and had 2 zip ties (one at each end of a 1" fold) tightly holding the folds.
2. I had recently installed a carbon fiber receiver tray on my truggy to allow a little more room for fitment of the electronics. I had zip tied the folder power wired bundle to the carbon fiber tray...

Undid both of the above, now the wires are loosely bundled and they are not secured to the carbon fiber. And my problem went away.. 3 race days and now more issues.

Great advice guys! Yes I do have my wires all tucked away quite tightly inside shrink wrap and against the chassis so I will work on freeing those up, as well as finding a different RX to try.

Does sound as though my esc has gone to the great race track in the sky however.......
