What brushed setup for racing?
I have a 2wd sct with a brushed setup. Id like to keep it that way, so id like your opinions on what motors should i look for? I found some from Holmes Hobbies, Reedy, and Yeah Racing. I really like the Yeah Racing motors but my question is, If i want to strictly keep it at my local track, which turn motor? 12t,13t,17t,21t? I'm not racing in any class specifically, I just need more power for the jumps and everything.
it would be cool if someone could explain why they would use this or that motor. thanks ✌️ |
before you choose any motor you need to check what motors turns are allowed at your local track
most tracks have class restrictions and limit motor turns and some even limit manufacture check your local track for that info then come back and someone can help you decide on the optimal motor within your local tracks specs |

Well the XL5 esc has a limit. 15T for 540 sized motors. 12T for 550 sized motors. You’ll need to change the esc also. |

if your actually doing race day events ,and not just bashing on at the track ,then you really will need think about what class and what restrictions that class has

Reedy Radon 2 3-Slot Brushed Motor (15T) Team brood makes some stout 27t stockers. BRO-TBR-CREEP27 I feel that yeah racing are a knock off and are well.. junk Amazon multi labeled branded jahoey malarky theory of mass marketing and it infected amain and eBay There is ten motors that are the same with different names on it. |

it would be cool if someone could explain why they would use this or that motor. thanks ✌️ But that was for 1/10th scale buggies and Stadium Trucks. Something I see few people acknowledging is that the SCTs are just bigger and heavier than the cars the typical 540 motors were "meant" for. (By "meant for" I mean the 540 size motor was picked out of the possible variations because it was big enough to produce the desired power levels while not being over-stressed to the point of having a short lifetime.) If you really want to run brushed, I'd recommend contacting Holmes Hobbies for a good custom built 550 motor with FB9 or FB12 magnets. I think there's a guy on RCTech with the screen name "fyrstormer" who has done that. He may give you some hints on what would work. |
Or just go brushless. If your concerned about cost, then grab an cheapo brushless system. 13.5T (3800kv). You really get what you pay for. You can get something between $50 and $100. Don't push too much power to the wheels.
plastic does not like power. (driveshafts, hexes, shocks, etc.) Upgrading is needed when running hard and fast. Maybe look at tires your using. What shock setup. There are more variables to talk about then just an motor. You really didn't give us much to work with. Your probably not hooking up properly with your existing brushed system. are you running lipo? |
