Advice on some entry level electronics for racing
#1
Decided to get back into the hobby after a long hiatus and all the electronics I have are pretty much obsolete as I am coming from brushed motor era and I am feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the new tech out there xD
I am looking to get into running stock buggy at my local track (SDRC).
Any advice on good entry level Speed controls and 17.5 motors would be appreciated as well as advice on transmitters and receivers. Would prefer to be more towards the budget end of the spectrum please.
And any other useful advice is always appreciated.

If you are planning to race stock I think the Hobbywing Justock ESC is one of the best bargains out there at just over $50:

I prefer to use antenna-less receivers, and would also recommend Sanwa or Futaba for your radio gear. The Futaba 3PV is a great budget radio and relatively light. I have large hands and had no problems using it though others have complained that it doesn't suit small hands. The equivalent Sanwa radio system is the MX6.
But, if you are planning to stick with racing you may be better off looking for a higher end second hand radio. Futaba 4PV, 4PX, 4PLS or Sanwa M12, M12S, MT44, MT-S would all be good candidates if you can find a good deal second hand, but even second hand they will cost more than and entry level radio. Ask around at your track to see if anyone is selling, and ask to try holding radios at the track or shop to see how they feel in your hand.

The guys at SDRC are super cool and suggest going to them for whatever you need . For budget I would suggest a hobbywing justock esc and the reedy s+,r1 v21,tekin spec-R all good motors . SDRC has that stuff in stock and can help you with whatever you have questions about . Support your local hobby shop/track whenever you can .

When friends ask this question I tell them to get the Futaba 4PV. Its great and rx are reasoanably priced. I have a Sanwa MT4S and like it but the rx cost more.
I have Trackstar ESC/motor combos which were a great entry to RC racing. They are slower than brand name gear but it took me over a year to get consistent enough for the slower gear to make a difference. The Surpass motors suggested above are good, I have the V4S motors now and am impressed. Really zthis depemds on your budget, but the Hobbywing Pro Stock look good to me if you're running stock class
Servos - I rate Savox 1258TG for bang for buck.
