Default mylaps app for practice and racing?

I just learned that I need a mylaps transponder for racing at my local track. I like the idea of software to time practice laps. I can't find anything much about it. What software do some of you use? Should I pay for a subscription, or is that necessary.

Thanks!

All the lap counting and timing is done with the My laps and recorded on the computer. No software/etc. for you to buy. The computer at the track does all the work for you. Most tracks have a screen to look at results and can print those results out on paper. Track computers are set-up for race and practice modes. Tells you all you want to know. Once you get the transponder, install in car/truck and once you cross the loop, it will show up with your number and track official can add your name to that number and your good to go from there on out. Simple. Most people have one for each race vehicle and some prefer to have one and swap it between other cars.

The speedhive app works if the transponder loop is turned on for practice.

For a period of time, I would open the speedhive app, have the phone in my pocket and one earphone in so that I could hear the app report lap times (as my track didn't announce lap times for practice)
This really helped with figuring out some rhythm, consistency etc ...
