I never do, but I do turn the timing down 10-15° from wherever I was running the motor timing when the esc had no timing in it. You also may need to drop a couple teeth on the pinion too. Only way to figure out exactly what you want to do is to try something and see how it feels to you. After making a change take 10 laps to see how your car feels. After 10 laps check motor and esc temps to make sure nothing is getting too hot. Try a few different combos of gearing and motor/esc timing to see what you like.
