Default Mamba Max Pro issues

Hey y'all....

So my son and I both have started short course racing recently. I race 2wd and 4wd, and my son just 4wd. Both our trucks are set up similar with different motors, I am running a 4700kv 3660 LRP motor, and his truck has a 4700kv XErun 3654 motor, both trucks are running Mamba Max Pro SCT ESC's, sensored.

The problem is that both of us lost out battery connectors yesterday trying to race. three or four laps, and the trucks would shut down, when we investigated we found that the solder had melted. I re-soldered them once, same thing. So I thought maybe it was my shit soldering skills. So I had a local pro solder them for us, same thing.

Another issue is that both trucks were wiping out batteries in no time. I killed a 5000mah 50c Lectron Pro battery in like 3 minutes, and his truck was acting pretty much the same.

I searched the web and found no threads of reports of similar issues with these ESC's. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?

Weird issue, I used to run one of these in my sct410 with a very similar motor. Sounds like weak solder joints, but killing a battery that fast is weird.

Can you try a different battery and post some pics of your sodler joints? These are the older mmp? Not the newer style?

Also those mmps have really weak bec, I always ran a external Bec. It seemed to alleviate some of servo problems.

His truck has a Savox 1258tg servo, no issues with brown out, my truck is running a savox 1260 mg, and it would brown out til I put a big cap on the receiver. I bought both of the ESC's used, cause we are trying to race on a budget, so I don't know if these are older or newer, they both look the same.

A big cap just masks the problem. Personally I always run a Bec in a short course equipped with a savox.

Post some pics of your solder joints but it still sounds like a weak solder joints. Could be because of bad solder. Also what kind of solder are you using?

I've been using trak power rosin core silver solder for these builds.

The guy that re-soldered them for us at the track was using worthington silver solder and flux paste.

What is really weird is I was at the track practicing several times leading up to race day yesterday, no issues. I think it was wednesday, it was hot AF, like 94 degrees, I ran three packs through my truck, probably got an hour of practice in, no issues. I will pull the tape off the connectors and get pics later. I need to clean them up after race day yesterday anyway.

I would suggest switching out to kester solder. It's a really good 60/40 solder. Don't use silver based solder, it takes way to much skill to get right.

Deans.

Think I am gonna switch that up, but first I am gonna try an RX8 esc. The max pro has tiny wires by comparison, I am thinking bigger wires, less resistance, less heat, maybe solve a problem.

Good luck, but I'm pretty sure it's your solder joints are the weak link.

For point of reference, I use deans on a 6s mt410 and they only get slightly warm. This is also on 12 guage wire, so I doubt it's your wire thickness.

If you are having problems with the solder joints on your deans connectors the RX-8 is just going to give you 5 more chances to mess something up.
5 expensive chances.

When I started out with E-8 (10 years ago) I ran an original Mamba Max and a Neu motor for a whole season using powerpole connectors, The wire size on the Mamba Max was never an issue and the MMP uses the same size wire.
