You can find those same items on eBay. Tomtop seems pretty sketchy.

I know there not really popular for a number of reasons. But I’ve never really had any issues with the VXL system. Especially if stay with 2s. Can usually find them fairly cheap. So many are quickly pulled from vehicles on reputation alone, before even trying them.
Castle systems are usually solid.

What kinda of age and experience?

GoolRC is a decent quality, another brand I've grown to trust is Hobby Star (some believe both re-brands come from the same OEM):

I would select the 3800KV option here to help your cousin get a little more power:

If he's just bashing it I'd Castle Creations. I have a Rustler VXL with the stock electronics and if/when they die or burn up I'm going to go with a Mamba X (because I prefer sensored but sensorless is fine for bashing really) and the 3800kv motor. Seems like a good choice to me.

5 seconds of google searching? I dont have to order from some place to see its sketchy, I just head on over to google and look up the business. FYI its an aggregator like Alibaba or ebay, so your not buying directly from tomtop, but any number of sketchy people linked with them.
