Has anyone tried to use that type of discharger on a lipo pack I realize there’s no way to control each cell and you’d have to use a volt meter to make sure you didn’t ruin the battery but talk about a low tech low price discharger I understand this is crazy dangerous and I’m not asking anyone to do it so please don’t i was just curious as to if anyone has done it from a physical standpoint it should work fine while being supervised and a proper precaution taken as to cover all your variables of what can go wrong mainly fire. it’s just something I was fairly curious about and seen this post and figured I could ask here

Yes, I built one with a voltage cutoff using a power relay and some resistors to alter the coil current. Works fine.

I have one of these left over from 1993:

Works great. I had to set the I charger duo discharger ''to light bulbs'' It discharges up to 40 amps.

Outdoors, I might regen to a car battery instead soon. But I'm running mod outdoors for now. No discharging required.

Thou I do like the dischargers of yore, the design of the op’s discharger is practical and a very approachable project. I do have set plans to make a discharger, have a large heatsink, resistors, switches, and all the boolean I can handle.

One other thing I noticed when I read through the thread again is, the switchable resistors to scale up the current.. this to can be automatic using boolean with voltage reference points, transistors and relays etc.
