How do they get away with it!

Recently I've had 2 servos fail (my 10 year old daughter is just learning). These were sold as "metal gear servos" but upon inspection they both have a plastic "fail gear". I call B.S.

Who is "they" also what model servo ? I would not be shocked if the lower end servos 50 and under are built like junk ha

2wheeltyson 02-02-2018 08:50 AM

They are 2 different "big name brands" they were budget (around $50) advertised as "metal gear"

Darkgenerals 02-02-2018 09:37 AM

You do understand you can say the name right? Snap some photo's of the servo and the broken gear. everyone one loves good carnage pictures.

Name and model of servo? What are the servos being used in?

I too would like to know who they are ? If they lied I would send it back

Well that's not very helpful. Sorry you had bad luck.

Very few cars can even run a servo saver anymore and with all the all-aluminum steering racks that are now more common, buying an all-metal gear servo is often essential.
Thus...

Or this thread is kind of pointless.

Patiently waiting for the name and model of the servo.

Roelof 02-02-2018 10:44 AM

It is for some brands common that the 1st gear after the motor pinion is plastic. I believe the Multiplex Tiny-S mg has such a construction.

Over there the gear does not need to hold a lot of power and it is a failsafe....

The first was a hitec 5925 and the second was a spektrum S6020 both were in 1/10 buggy.

kaistas 02-02-2018 11:20 AM

I've opened a spektrum S6240, and they indeed had a metal gear. I'd be interested to know what model.

2wheeltyson 02-02-2018 11:43 AM

Spektrum's description

KEY FEATURES
146 oz-in torque at 6V affords impressive performance in the toughest applications
Precise digital control
Dual ball bearings provide less resistance for higher performance and longer life
Heavy-duty metal gear train

Then the funny fine print

Gear Type:MetalGear Material:Metal with one (1) plastic
