Need Advice for TX/RX please Advice needed.

Hello Everybody,
I have a Traxxas Rustler which I really like for playing around. It has the Tqi tx and rx combo but after a bad crash, the antenna was cut to like 2 inches so I replaced it. Now the range is still very short--like 20 feet and I loose signal. So I am going to either get a new combo Traxxas Tqi or an aftermarket. Now, I'm not a racer or do these things seriously, but I do appreciate decent, reliable range (which I was getting with the TQI). I see used combos going for about $35-40. Is there perhaps a better aftermarket you might suggest that may be in the same price range or are they all about the same?
Thanks in advance.
