Default How much "Personal Opinion" should Mods be expressing

Take it easy, guys... lets stay on topic, yeah? too many complaints coming in about this thread. I would hate to close such an awesome thread.

No offense to you apple guys, but I always find it hilarious when you buy a product designed to be incompatible with everything, and then complain that it isn't compatible. It's like standing in the rain and complaining that you are getting wet.

Anyway, 90% of us run our speedos in blinky mode, whether you are are running stock or mod, with the remainder of your settings available right on the buttons. Is there really even an issue? Why don't you just program your tekin with the buttons? (maybe i'm in the minority, but for the most part, I set and forget).

Here is a quote from Brandon, not trying to pick on him it was just the one
that happened to catch my eye. Seen a couple of others come into threads
and use there position a bully pulpit when it suited there position. So my
question to other forum members is, If a mod has to come into a thread to
get things back on topic or warn people about behavior should they be giving
there own opinion in the same post? And if its a topic there involved in the
discussion of should they not have another mod come in to keep order?

Again I am not trying to call out Brandon on this. There are a couple others
that are far worse about this.

No, not mod bashing at all. If this forum has no rules or structure about
how the mods conduct themselves so be it.

So in your opinion its ok to moderate a thread and take an active part
in the discussion?

Moderators are members. We're free to express our opinions the same as anyone else. You could call doing both in one post "multitasking"

I don't see any issue with the post you quoted. And neither does Matt M. the site admin. according to the phone conversation we had this morning. If there are other posts you have an issue with send them to him directly.

To the OP I don't see how the mod was bullying anyone. Nothing wrong with his post IMO. And I see nothing wrong with wearing their mod hat in the same post. They are users, here for the same reason you or I are here.

Yep in fact I do it a lot

Mods are answerable to other mods, if we do something out of line, another moderator may pick up on it, and it'll be discussed, there are a lot of discussions out of the public forums that go on and all mods try to be impartial when enforcing site rules.

Matt

I don't really have a care against you or your assistants .

I have even ignored your assistants past efforts thus far .

Only trying to help you understand improvements are needed to make this board a friendlier fun place to come .

The point of coming into that thread, was to try and calm down some of the bashing coming down on to the OP, and I think there may have been some towards tekin as well. To answer the OPs original question here, I am a member just like you, in that I can give my opinions, just the same way you can and I am required to do it inside the rules of the site, just like you. I am no different.

My reply was 3 faceted.

1. Let everybody know the mods are watching, and to keep it civil
2. Post my own opinion that yes, Macs are silly
3. Try to give an alternative perspective (i.e. program via the buttons, which works fine, and you don't need a computer at all).

I don't see a problem at all with the post, regardless of who posted it... moderator or non-moderator. There are a couple dozen replies in that thread that DO warrant some attention however, and that attention is likely to be given soon. (and I believe some action has already been taken).

And if you DO have an issue with something I have posted, feel free to send me a PM and let me know. I have no problems having a friendly discussion, and I have no problem going back through and deleted/editing something I have said, if it may have unintentionally offended you or somebody else. That includes you too, George! I know there are often times we don't see eye to eye, and I apologize if some of my posts come off wrong. I will double my efforts in being extra civil with you, amigo. After all, moderators are humans too.

-cpt.

(edit: oh yeah... MACs are silly)

Default IB POV

Just to clarify our stance on this, we have always and will always view moderators as members first. That's how they generally see themselves too. They're members who volunteer their time because they have a passion for the community and an ability to remain calm under duress and a desire to help. In no way is a mod expected to curtail his/her own thoughts or opinions just because they have extra responsibilities/status here.

There are times -- when disciplinary action is called for, for instance -- when a mod must step back and simply "be the job" for a moment. But those are few & far between, and I have yet to see any RCT mod overstep a boundary and interject personal bias (which we all have) into a disciplinary action.

I agree with Matt: this is a great team.
