What is the best way to store paint and how long does it last? Or shelf life as some may say.

I try not to put them on direct light. I keep them on a box and on a dry place. When i want to paint i go and take them. Afer i use them i check if every one is well close and put them back in to the box.

I store my paints in work drawers in my paint shop area. Basically regular cabinets out of sunlight and even work lights. Some of the paints i'm using are 7 or 8 years old and work fine. Some colors just aren't as popular so they sit a while, but still work well if remixed with a small wood stirrer before use and reduction for spraying.

But Jim, are most of yours lacquers? I think some of the solvent based paints store better than the waterbased ones.

Most are, but I have 45 or so Auto Air wb bottles also. Some 4 years or more old now.

I made my paint rack out of pre primed door casing aka 3" trim molding. It is available at any home improvment store and you can make them fit your space. Mine are 5' long. I did the lip on the front but you would not need too.

Hello! Is there a reason for you to put the paints upside dow?

Cheers

What size pit boards are you guys painting? Does it depend on car size? Looking to whip up some 1/10 scale offroad stuff.

The water base stuff seems to store better upside down, it does not skim over when they are upside down.

I have been trying to expand my ability by painting on the ontside of things. I am struggling. I am also trying to stick with water base and I am hatting the fact that I have to clear everything. Once I finish I turn it over to someone else for final clear and cut and buff. I find that my work gets damaged in the process. Is there an easy to use clear I can protect my work with? I am self taught and have only painted on the inside does any one have any tips for painting on the outside of things?
