Trimming Bottom of Lexan Body

Trimming Bottom of Lexan Body
I painted my first lexan body recently.
When I mounted the body on the car the lower edge of the body actually touched the ground. I trimmed about 5mm off the body. so it was at least 5mm off the ground all the way around. This required I cut off the air dam on the bottom of the front of the car. I think the air dam does add to the looks of the car.
I wonder if the air dam or the wing in the back really help make the car faster or easier to control?
Should I have mounted the body higher on the posts and not trimmed the bottom?
I have an XXX-S touring car and I am just starting out.

Which body is it??
Generally all the Protoform bodies you can cut right on the markings.
For the Losi bodies, if you set the body on your desk, and take a sharpie, set it on the desk also, and run it along the bottom of the body, and that should put you were you need to be.
Trim more if nessisary, but it shouldnt be much. You can also change the body posts if you need.
