I concur on the vinyl masking - I was not trying to insinuate that using a vinyl cutter is less "artistic," rather I was defending myself by someone who was doing just that. I wish I had the skills that Toastie has at 2mm designs with Illustrator and Photoshop, it would make my life much easier....

I find it almost flattering that someone has to come on here and bash my skills - that means they are taking notice and feel like they have to put me down in order to lift up their own work (or the work of someone else)....
Keep it up McGoo!
Who do this guy think he is?
Using a vinyl cutter will not make you less of an "Artist" than cutting your paint mask by hand!, I use a vinyl cutter to help me with symetry as well as making my design easy to duplicate, another benefit from using a vinyl cutter is that you are no longer using an Xacto against the body so they will last longer.
Ask an Architect if they are less of an Architect simply because they now use AutoCad & a Plotter to print their plans and no longer are doing them by hand, please c'mon

Here is one of my latest Paint Job, and yes the paint mask was cut by a vinyl cutter,

Javier.

Hey now... Speaking as an architect, I now feel I need to reinforce how absolutely ESSENTIAL hand drawing still is. CAD is a great tool for documentation but absolutely awful for design. Any architect worth his salt knows when to pick up a pencil and step away from the computer. And relying too heavily on a computer can make for some truly god awful architecture. I'm looking at you, Frank Gehry. The EMP is an atrocity.

That said, using a comp to aid masking doesn't mean you have any less skill painting or designing a paint job. Might say something about your exacto skills, but nobody is perfect. And cutting can be a royal pain.

And on the other side of the coin, just because someone can cut something accurately by hand, doesn't mean it's all that fantastic of a design. I cut all my stuff. sure doesn't mean I'm a better painter for it.

This is my 3rd air brush paint job.
Trying to learn how to fade and shadow.
Some of the stickers are painted, the losi on the front and wing, and the FMF on the wing. The number plates are also painted.
Thanks guys for all comments and suggestions, you have inspired me to never try to paint an RC body again.
