I actually draw on the shell every time when I have to paint a new shell, it is a bit dump but I like to make some minor changes on each shell. This one is a copy from the brain speed graphix from Japan, and this scheme is for the Kyosho team driver Atachi, so you better check the Brain Speed web for more detail of this scheme. Besides, I don't use liquid mask as I think that is a bit too messy, I only use masking tape, even it will be more expansive.
That's my bodie . It looks even better than on those pictures. I will post a better picture soon. It is now mounted on a Corally RDX ''2005/2006 Prototype'' .
Greetings Victor

Nice job! Could you explain the process of using the vinyl masks a little more? Did you lay them all down on top of each other? Did you wet apply the vinyl? How did you do the pin stripe? Thanks!

The Altezza is done with Spazstik Chameleon paint. The Mini is a custom mixed British Racing Green.

Thanks! I kinda did this on my own so any of you pro painters can set me straight.

I designed the masks in illustrator with all the bits that you see, stripe, background and all. I cut them out using a vinyl cutter. Using transfer tape, I transfer the cut vinyl to the un-painted body (kinda like applying window tint) soapy water spritz. I finish off the body by taping it off with masking tape. Then I simply peel out the part I want to paint, paint it, peel out the next part I want to paint. The next time I start to paint a new body I will take picts to doc the process. This way it is easy for me to paint 4-5 bodies the almost the same. Hope this helps for now - time to go to work.

Cheers,
MG

If im gonna use plotted vinyl to mask some letters....... will I always have to cut around the letters after spraying before peeling? In the past I had paint peel ... any tips???

Sounds like you're spraying your paint too thickly. Do really light coats and let them dry completely (a hair dryer helps with this). The only paint I ever have problems like that with is my pearl black. Everything else works fine as long as the coats are light.

My thoughts exactly. Light thin coats, Allow dry completely before you peel, you may also try very lightly scuffing the inside of the body with scotch brite before you paint, that seems to help too.

MG
